About Concha Labs

Hear more clearly. Live more freely. We're on a mission to enable one billion people worldwide to hear clearly.

Job Description

You will be on the front lines of the digital health revolution, working on one of the most significant yet underserved challenges today, hearing loss. Over 1 Billion people worldwide have hearing loss, including our founder Amy Li (Stanford MBA, UC Berkeley Engineering) who went through 7 pairs of hearing aids over the last 26 years. We have developed patented technology that can enable one billion people worldwide to hear clearly. An alarming 80% of people with hearing loss don't gain access to solutions that would help them. We are solving the frictions of pricing, accessibility, reduced stigma and personalized audio quality. Our solution is 5-10x less expensive, can be set up at home or wherever you are, will be offered in different styles, and is patented, speech-based, and sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

This is a huge opportunity to build a technology & software platform for all these people to hear clearly, changing the landscape of hearing and audio software technology to empower people to hear clearly from the comfort of their own homes. We need you to develop intuitive, responsive audio experiences to help the user hear clearly. As a startup, we all wear multiple hats, so you'll also work closely with our multidisciplinary team as we create the optimal experience.

You will be joining the team at an exciting time - our MVP product is coming together and we are gearing up for launch. That being said, you will have the responsibility to help develop an even more amazing experience through structuring the collection of a wide array of user data, perform analysis and build relevant models, improve the technology and user experience with this data, and ultimately work with and meet real users impacted by your work. Roughly half of our team has hearing loss so there is incredible impact-collaboration upfront.

We're backed by National Science Foundation, StartX, SkyDeck, Cantos VC, and Yu Star Fund, and we have multiple patents granted. We are a software team tackling meaningful challenges that people with hearing loss face, to empower people to learn about their hearing and hear clearly from the comfort of their homes. We care about culture and having fun working together, and you will join and contribute to a company culture where mutual respect, collaboration, curiosity, and pushing boundaries are core to the company’s values. Ideally, you will bring an energetic, fun, and “always learning” mindset.

What we're looking for:

  • A strong work ethic and entrepreneurial mindset
  • Driven and excited to work in a small team environment
  • Curiosity in understanding scope quickly and communicating with team members
  • Continuously learning; positive and resourceful in the face of new and unpredictable challenges
  • A team player that values collaboration and can drive projects cross-functionally from concept through shipping
  • Excellent technical and non-technical communication skills

  • Structure and analyze data from user information, user responses, live environment audio, and other situational factors.
  • Develop machine learning solutions to process data, train models, and assess performance from user behavior.
  • Optimize model parameters to improve audio manipulation parameter configurations on hearing devices.
  • Develop audio solutions that include signal manipulation such as noise reduction, compression, and expansion.
  • Troubleshoot and debug applications, and test software to ensure responsiveness and efficiency.
  • Maintain clear code and relevant documentation.

Ideal Candidate Experience and Skills:
*Must have:

  • 2+ years experience with machine learning modeling or statistics
  • 2+ years experience in audio digital signal processing
  • Knowledge of audio theory and practice
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills
  • Great attention to detail, organizational skills, and analytical skills
  • Technologies: Python, Google Cloud Platform, TensorFlow or pyTorch, C/C++ *Nice to have:
  • Experience in developing automated unit and regression tests
  • Experience in backend development
  • Technologies: Go, PostgreSQL

What We Offer:

  • Opportunity to join a well-funded startup early on its mission to enable one billion people worldwide to hear clearly
  • High impact in your role: success in this role will allow you to develop and grow professionally as well as have a big impact in the business
  • Team of smart, ambitious and genuinely kind people
  • Frequent networking events and industry talks. We are a member of SkyDeck (UC-Berkeley), StartX (Stanford origins), Rosenman Institute (UCSF Med), and National Science Foundation small business grant awardees
