Job Description

The EPMO is a business function that operates at a strategic level in collaboration with an organization’s executive team to ensure the role of servicing in support of the entire organization, its strategies, and operational needs.  Governance pertaining to each project, program and portfolio should be aimed at meeting company-wide opportunities and addressing operational issues and barriers.  This role supports the development and maturation of program/project excellence acumen throughout the organization through adherence to standardized governance, processes, tools, and portfolio management methodologies. Must be disciplined, dynamic, and flexible, work effectively in a rapidly changing environment, and meet ongoing and overlapping deadlines.   

Key Responsibilities:

  • Program Management Governance:
    • Contribute to establishing the EPMO role, operating model(s), and areas of focus.
    • Set standards for program/project management capabilities, including certifications and qualifications, success measurement criteria, methodologies, processes, and tools.
    • Create a “center of excellence” to nurture program/project managers and share knowledge of industry best practices.
    • Monitor compliance with policies and standards.
  • Program Management Team Leadership:
    • Contribute to establishment of the EPMO organizational structure, hiring and managing staffing requirements in line with program/project objectives.
    • Oversee the delegation of work to Program/Project Managers, and Business Analysts.
    • Set annual performance targets for individuals and the team and conduct performance reviews.
  • Program/Project Tracking and Monitoring:
    • Track and provide program/project status and audit reports.
    • Manage the risk, issue, and change resolution process, and work with other leaders to take corrective action as needed.
    • Oversee Program/Project Managers for the delivery of high complexity programs/projects on time, within scope and on budget.
  • Project Prioritization
    • Provide executive leaders with the information needed to assess which proposals have the highest potential value, impact, and strategic alignment.
    • Interface with executives to define project priorities and implementation opportunities and challenges and keep them up to date with project risks and opportunities.

 

 

Skills and Knowledge Requirements:

  • Strong knowledge of project and change management and associated methodologies, techniques, processes, and approaches including Project and Portfolio Management.
  • Strong proficiency with the use of MS Project and project collaboration software tools.
  • Excellent Budget, cost, and profitability management skills.
  • Strong experience with resource management tools.
  • Credibility as a senior level program/project leader.
  • Strategic thinker – ability to manage multiple and complex objectives and deadlines in the context of the big picture.
  • Team leader – ability to mentor, coach, and effectively transfer expertise to others.
  • Facilitation, negotiation, and problem resolution – ability to build a strong network and influence relationships at all levels of the organization.
  • Ability to work effectively and efficiently in a fast-paced and dynamic environment in the context of scaling and accelerating commercial growth.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Minimum Experience and Education:

  • BS/MS in Science, Engineering or related technical field, MBA a plus.
  • 15+ years of progressive management/leadership experience in program management, management consulting, planning and operational experience.
  • PMP Certification a plus.
