About the Role

Reporting to the VP, Litigation, this position is responsible for managing and overseeing litigation and regulatory investigations for LendingClub and its affiliates and for providing legal counsel and advice on litigation avoidance and legal and regulatory risk management. You’ll also be responsible for managing subpoenas and other requests for information that LendingClub and its affiliates receive and for developing policies and procedures to ensure effective management of litigation, regulatory investigations, and information requests.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with business, compliance, and legal team members to provide strategic guidance and solutions to prevent litigation, mitigate legal and regulatory risk, and promote business initiatives.

  • Efficiently and effectively resolve investigations and lawsuits, and direct and supervise all aspects of outside counsel relationships, including staffing, litigation and investigations strategy, invoice management, compliance with legal vendor requirements, and work product development.

  • Manage and facilitate responses to subpoenas, civil investigative demands, or other inquiries or information requests.

  • Contribute to legal budget management.

  • Provide substantive updates to internal and external partners on pending or potential litigation and investigations.

  • Enhance your knowledge of laws, regulations, and industry and regulatory guidance relevant to your role and LendingClub’s business.

  • Develop policies, procedures, standards and training to ensure effective management of litigation, arbitrations, investigations, and subpoenas and other information requests and to prevent and manage litigation and regulatory risk.

  • Prepare employees for deposition, trial or other events relating to pending matters.

  • Attend hearings, trials, and arbitrations.

About You

  • JD with 8+ years of experience at a law firm and/or a corporate legal department.

  • A member in good standing of a Bar in one or more states.

  • Excellent academic credentials.

  • Ability to immediately assume significant independent responsibility.

  • Experience leading and managing a team of legal professionals.

  • Strong experience in litigation and litigation management.

  • Experience with financial services related litigation and regulatory matters.

  • Excellent interpersonal, written and oral communications skills.

  • A team-first attitude with a willingness and ability to help wherever and whenever it is needed.

  • Well organized, self-motivated and hardworking, with the ability to thrive in a dynamic work environment and manage numerous projects simultaneously under deadline pressure.

  • Experience developing and implementing policies and procedures relating to litigation and investigations management, document preservation, and subpoenas and other information requests.

  • A high-level of intellectual, professional and interpersonal agility and flexibility.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with business, compliance, and legal team members, exercising good judgment that balances legal requirements with practical business needs.

  • Openness to engaging in moderate travel as part of this role.

  • A strong sense of humor, unquestioned ethics and integrity, and high tolerance for ambiguity.
