About Collective Health

Collective Health is the world's first cloud-based employer self-insurance platform. We enable employers to sponsor employee health care on their own terms by extending the benefits of self-insurance to companies with 100 or more employees, and providing a level of customer service and care that has not been available in the health insurance industry before.

Job Description

We all depend on healthcare throughout our lifetimes, for ourselves, and our families and friends, but it is notoriously difficult to navigate and understand. As an industry that comprises 20% of the US economy we believe healthcare should work better for all of us. At Collective Health we believe it’s time for a new day in healthcare where as members we are informed and empowered to make the right care choices when the decisions are urgent and critical.

We deliver a connected healthcare experience for over a quarter million members and 60+ companies across the nation who want the best for their employees. If you want to make a difference in the healthcare of those around you, join us.

Collective Health is seeking a Manager of Data Engineering who will manage a team of skilled engineers that build big data pipelines and services using distributed computing tools, such as Spark, AWS Glue, Flink, Druid or Hadoop. These data pipelines are used to power experimentation, machine learning models, dashboards and custom reporting across a variety of critical domains, including plan utilization and value, care recommendations, benefit utilization, cost visibility and comparison, and health outcome analysis. You will also help drive data to inform product decisions and help our members discover the best way to get, manage and understand the value of their healthcare.

You will work with a multi-functional team of product engineers, data scientists, analysts and business partners to help grow Collective Health. The data your team produces will be used to help make business decisions and product strategy.

  • Work closely with the data infrastructure team to ensure roadmaps and requirements are understood and the platform capabilities can support the data engineering backlog and goals
  • Ensure reporting, analytics and data science teams have the data products, developed by data engineering or themselves, to support the business goals
  • Participate in improving our engineering processes and governance
  • Participate in data governance to scale our overall data operations
  • Work across functional and platform teams to ensure we are using technology and standards to enable agility and velocity of development
  • Be a change agent and work diligently to ensure the “why” of decision making, technical decisions, and product decisions are understood
  • Always strive for consistency in our approach to data to ensure quality and consistent reporting and data from across our various application, reporting and analytics teams
  • Hold yourself and your team accountable to delivering on commitments
  • Lead and mentor other team members
  • Identify and drive process improvements
  • Facilitate communication with multi-functional groups

  • 10+ years in engineering and 2+ years leading a team
