Job Description

We are looking for an Associate Buyer to oversee 2-3 categories and assist the Sr. Buyer with growing the third party business. The role is responsible for creating and executing strategies to deliver productive, innovative, profitable third party product assortments on our platform. This position oversees vendor relationships, driving mutually beneficial joint business plans, cost negotiations, and vendor funded marketing, and his/her category’s growth strategies. This role touches on many parts of the business with the core cross functional partners for the role being site merchandising, marketing, inventory management, analytics, and creative. This role reports directly to the Sr. Buyer.

YOUR IMPACT:

      • ASSORTMENT PLANNING:
      • Own 2-3 categories by developing and executing product assortment strategies that contribute to growth in the sales, margin conversion, and order size for Grove Collaborative
      • Regularly track and report on product performance of the assortment and pivot future assortment strategies as needed to best optimize the business
      • Work in  partnership with the Inventory and Site Merchandising teams to conduct quarterly hindsights on merchandising initiatives and competitive landscape to inform future strategic planning
 
      • VENDOR RELATIONSHIPS:
      • Actively manage vendor relationships by scheduling monthly and quarterly calls, informing vendors of major upcoming events, any notable sales lifts or dips,  and sending monthly sales reports
      •  Negotiate advantageous product costing to further Grove’s aggressive margin growth goals
      • Work with vendors to ensure the most productive, top selling SKUs are available on Grove Collaborative
 
    • MARKETING:
    •  Assist Sr. Buyer in managing the annual marketing budget and calendar by organizing and helping to execute activations with top vendors
    • Partner with marketing and site merchandising to ensure high performing, margin accretive, third party products are featured in marketing campaigns and site placements
    • Work with vendors on annual marketing plans by understanding their budget. Strategically place vendors in marketing placements which drive the best ROI for their assortment type. Track results to validate ROI by understanding sales and brand lift

ABOUT YOU:

    •  Bachelor's Degree required
    • Passionate about eCommerce and striking the optimal balance between data driven and brand building
    •  2+ years of experience in product buying with an emphasis on third party vendors, not vertical product dev
    • Time management skills by setting deadlines, prioritizing projects and not procrastinating
    • Must have a passion for eco/sustainable commerce 
    • Subscription and/or auto-replenishment business model experience preferred.  
    •  Proven data-driven decision making skills, demonstrating the ability to gather, manipulate, and interpret large data sets to inform high level strategy
    •  Intermediate Excel skills (must know how to do Vlookups, Sumifs and Pivot tables) 
    • Looker experience a plus
    • Solid understanding of key retail math equations
    • Ability to make timely decisions, work in a fast paced and often-changing environment
    • Ability to identify, prioritize and advocate for the work with the best ROI
    • Start up experience preferred
