Alation continues to hire for roles at various locations with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19 crisis. Everyone new to the Alation team, along with our current workforce, will temporarily work from home until it is safe to return to our offices.

As a Senior UX Researcher at Alation, you’ll help solve some of the most challenging and complex problems facing organizations today. You’ll lead the research program for a complex product that helps people answer their most pressing questions using data. 
 
In addition to conducting primary research, you’ll help set the research strategy and priorities across programs. At Alation, we empower designers and product managers to conduct primary research. You will multiply your impact by working closely with your colleagues, mentoring and guiding their research efforts.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead strategic research efforts and conduct complex studies that drive product strategy  and deepen our understanding of our users 
  • Work collaboratively as a strategic partner with product managers, designers, and engineers to ground our decisions, strategy and tactics in user insights 
  • Prioritize research across multiple work streams and work on the right project, scale, and scope at the right time 
  • Ensure impact by delivering actionable insights
  • Enable colleagues to learn and apply research skills by building research programs, platforms, and toolkits that empower them to conduct tactical research
  • Disseminate research insights to evolve and enhance our understanding of user need

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Cognitive Science, Human Computer Interaction or related discipline, or equivalent professional experience
  • 3-5 years relevant user research experience; B2B or enterprise product work experience preferred
  • Experience with a variety of research methods, including qualitative interviews, surveys, ideation sessions, ethnographic field research, usability evaluation, and diary studies
  • Can lead, design, execute, and communicate impactful research in a fast-paced, product development process and know how to integrate research into product and design roadmaps
  • Able to do hands-on research, from planning and recruiting to analysis and insights delivery
  • Skilled in explaining your work, process, and decisions to cross-functional stakeholders
  • Can balance urgency and focus with methodological rigor
  • Portfolio of work samples demonstrating an ability to plan and execute impactful user research, and to extract actionable insights from qualitative and quantitative data
