Job Description

Tenable is looking for a Senior Research Manager, Strategic Projects to head our Research Strategic Projects group. You will manage highly focused teams across the globe working on solving complex problems relating to delivery of innovation to our customers particularly around the interaction between our plugins and products. The role will involve active collaboration with Executives, Senior leadership, peers and stakeholders across the entire organization. ​

Your Opportunity:

  • Technical day-to-day leadership of multiple teams (Asset Competitiveness, NASL Libraries and Strategic Projects) in terms of prioritizing, reviewing and championing strategic initiatives and other research projects
  • Delivery of original research to solve customer needs
  • Collaborates closely with Executives, product and research teams across the company, program management and various parts of the Tenable organization on different projects
  • Mentors Managers and talented research engineers on the team and helps recruit enthusiastic, innovative members to grow the teams 
  • Handles day-to-day management tasks such as performance reviews, employee time off, HR Coordination, IT resource management, etc.
  • Is an active member of the local tech community by means of coordinating, hosting or participating in tech events and meetups to grow the Tenable Research brand throughout the NA region
  • Keeps team accountable & is accountable for the team and all its members
  • Enhances the culture

What You'll Need:

  • 9+ years of experience in security research as an individual contributor. 3+ years prior experience in a Manager or higher role with measurable success
  • Prior experience working with international and remote teams, especially team sizes greater than 15 (direct and indirect) 
  • Business development orientation, and robust interpersonal communications and organizational skills
  • Ability to collaborate and drive efforts from teams across multiple organizations
  • Adaptable and able to shift priorities among initiatives, as needed
  • Prior experience leading and performing open-ended security research when given high level details of the desired outcome.
  • Ability to attract and hire great senior researchers and managers, lead and mentor them and make them successful. Build out the Strategic Projects function to facilitate delivery of innovation to customers
  • Strong knowledge of cybersecurity threats, risks, mitigations, and products
  • Experience managing managers (including remote managers w/ remote teams)
  • Track record of success in delivering quality products from concept to launch
  • Direct and manage multiple concurrent research projects
  • Ensure all team members are communicating effectively on technical issues and have a coordinated approach
  • Must possess the ability to solve problems logically, research options, and focus on meaningful data to draw the right conclusions under pressure
  • B.S. degree in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent work experience; M.S. preferred

And Ideally:

  • Strong understanding of all of the security response challenges associated with Vulnerability Management
  • Reverse Engineering experience and in-depth understanding of common security vulnerabilities, CVSS scoring, vulnerability classification, detection and exploitation techniques.
