You: You’ll be responsible for growing WorldRemit’s footprint across our key Southern African countries. Based in Johannesburg, South Africa, you are a commercial business leader accustomed to working in dynamic and fast paced organisations with high expectations.

Reporting to the Managing Director, Middle East and Africa you’ll:

  • Acquire new and manage existing partnerships, deepening these relationships, whilst accelerating our growth.
  • Target a wide variety of correspondents ranging from mobile operators, banks, financial institutions, and retailers
  • Lead from the front to drive in-country marketing activities with a positive return on investment
  • Work closely with the CMO and Marketing team in London HQ to set up co-branded marketing between WorldRemit and correspondent partners. You’ll stay true to our brand values whilst respecting regional sensibilities
  • Identify opportunities for growth and development using market analysis and insights
  • Create the Commercial strategy for the region, rigorously prioritising the most profitable opportunities whilst balancing short and long term results
  • Use your broad insight into consumer trends in the region to generate ideas with the London-based Product team for enhancing the service. 

What we’re looking for from you

  • Strong stakeholder management and relationship building - through relationships and networking, you will penetrate the senior decision- making cadre within target organisations
  • A proven business development professional with a wealth of experience structuring large commercial deals, optimising partnerships and being a trusted relationship manager
  • A highly versatile professional, the Head of Southern Africa will act as a true ambassador for WorldRemit in all circumstances
  • An entrepreneurial and hands-on business builder, with a track record of setting a strategic vision and turning it into reality
  • A deep understanding of market dynamics and likely sources of business
  • A sophisticated business development mentality with the ability to synthesise feedback to share valuable insights
  • You’re a natural self-starter, with the ability to work autonomously, happy to travel up to 30% of the time. 

What we need from you

  • In-depth understanding of the regulatory landscape as it relates to international remittances and mobile money
  • Fluent English both written and verbal
  • Proven experience engaging with senior officials within central banks / regulators (ensuring the company’s business remains compliant and licensed to operate)
  • A proven senior Business Development professional and relationship builder (having sold to the highest level of target organisations)
  • Consumer technology / banking / payments / remittance background
  • Strong commercial acumen and relationship management skills
  • Strategic, analytical, product mindset
  • Autonomous self-management as well as impeccable communication and collaboration skills
