The role of the Shift Manager is an exciting new role within Farmdrop. We are in the process of opening our first cross dock which you will manage and run. However, you will start by working with the Project Manager to set the site up and recruit your team. You will initially be based at our main hub in Enfield, to learn about what we do, before being based permanently at the new site in South Godstone, Surrey.


The role will report initially into the Project Manager. You will be a key player in shaping and developing the plan, the processes and the team for the new location. 


Once the site is operational, you will report into one of the operations leadership team members and you will be responsible for the daily running of the site, all functional processes at the site and managing and leading your team to ensure that all operational KPIs are met. 


You will need to be a creative problem solver who can think big and remove obstacles by standardization and working backwards from the problem to find solutions with “BLUE SKY THINKING” mentality. Your other key focus areas will be Safety of our teams and the quality of the products we deliver to our amazing customers.


Your Boss

This will be the Project Manager, Harry Rose who has been at Farmdrop since last summer.  Once the site has been established your boss will change to one of the operations leadership team members.


The Team

You will run a team of approx 7 people plus a team of Farmdroppers (what we call our drivers), all of which you will help recruit.


Role Progression

We are in a growth business, so likely we will open more hubs and expand; as will this role. We want farmdrop operations to be the best and most slick in the world. The more we grow, the more opportunities will open. 


Your closet working relationships (peas in a pod)

You will work closely with your team on site (obviously) and the team at Enfield - the Fleet and Logistics Manager (Lee), The General Manager (Dawood), The Fleet Excellence Manager (Michelle) and the shift managers (Stephen, Paul, Sarunas and Kenneth) in particular. 


Job Description

  • Develop the operational processes in order to make the cross dock a success.
  • Recruit and train the team that will operate the site alongside you. 
  • Leading and Managing your team of hubbers, fleet marshals and farmdroppers. 
  • Ensure the departure schedule is followed and met. 
  • Organising and planning your shifts and your team. 
  • Liaise between all teams via email & Slack
  • Responsible for general site management. 
  • Responsible for all checks on fridges, freezers and inbound deliveries
  • Adhering to cleaning schedules

What the day job will probably look like

  • Provide Shift briefings to all working
  • Ensuring all orders are unloaded from the main transport and loaded onto the vans for delivery. 
  • Problem solve for missed deliveries, re-deliveries, breakdowns and other issues. 
  • Marshall routes for drivers
  • Manage the departure schedule
  • Run your shift to ensure all tasks are completed by using your DILO (Day in the life of) sheet
