About Mux

Mux is an API-first video platform designed by experts to make world-class video streaming and analytics possible for every development team. Self-optimizing videos take the guesswork out of encodings, delivery, and renditions. Mux makes your video look beautiful on every device, every time.

Job Description

Mux is video for developers. Our mission is to democratize video by solving the hard problems developers face when building video: video encoding and streaming (Mux Video), video monitoring (Mux Data), and more. Video is a huge part of people’s lives, and we want to help make it better.

We’re committed to building a healthy team that welcomes a diverse range of backgrounds and experiences. We want people who care about our mission, are ready to grow, believe in our values (from Be Human to Turn Customers Into Fans), and want to make the people around them better.

You’ll be joining a tight-knit team with experience at places like Google, YouTube, Twitch, Zencoder, Fastly, and more. Our founders previously started (and sold) Zencoder, an early leader in cloud video technology, and authored Video.js, the biggest HTML5 video player on the web. We organize Demuxed, the premiere conference for video engineers in the world.

We’re backed by top investors like Accel and Y Combinator. You’ll get to work with amazing companies: hundreds of startups, plus Reddit, Vimeo, Robinhood, CBSi, Discovery, PBS, and TED. Customers large and small love working with us and love our team.

We’re growing quickly and are building something big together. We’d love to hear from you!

About the Role

Mux cares deeply about design and we’ve invested in it heavily from the start. Our brand is already globally known and loved in the video community and we’re ready to take our creative work to the next level. We’re looking for a senior brand designer to help elevate our style and communication while working with our talented writers, designers, marketers, and developers.

What You'll Do

  • Elevate our style and communication through beautiful, engaging websites, videos, motion graphics, and illustrations.
  • Work cross-functionally with writers, designers, marketers, and developers to create visual assets for product launches, campaigns, new developer programs, and any other external or internal facing projects.
  • Inspire our audiences of developers and media companies through our brand design.
  • Evolve the visual brand for existing products, new products, and the company overall.
  • Understand our different audiences and adapt design that's appropriate for each one.

Who You Are

  • 5+ years of design experience
  • Your working hours overlap with San Francisco. Doesn't have to be entirely, but being able to collaborate in real-time for a few hours a day is important
  • You’re naturally curious and open minded but like to ship
  • You work, think, and explore across multiple mediums: web experiences, video/photo art direction, motion, storytelling, illustration, brand systems, and more.
  • You're comfortable working with technical products and concepts and translating them into something a wider audience can relate to
  • You value the entire process from concept of an idea to implementation, and you’re comfortable owning this process
  • You write well and you value good copy writing in your design
  • You have opinions but collaboration and feedback is key to your process
  • You take pride in creating the perfect GIF (or looping video!) and maybe prefer to hand craft your SVGs
  • You have some art direction chops or experience creating briefs and working with freelancers
  • You’re confident in your design skills and ready to create some of your best work

You'd join an amazing team from places like Google/YouTube, Amazon/Twitch, Facebook/Oculus, Brightcove, Bain, and the BBC. We have a supportive culture that cares about both excellent work and work-life balance. Our SF headquarters is a beautiful office space located above the historic Orpheum Theatre, just steps from Civic Center BART station, with catered lunches and a kitchen that's fully stocked with drinks, snacks, and good coffee.

  • Flexible PTO
  • Healthy work-life balance encouraged
  • Competitive health, dental, and vision insurance (99% employee and 50% dependent premium coverage)
  • Employee Assistance Program (EAP)
  • Short-term and long-term disability insurance
  • Group life insurance
  • 401(k)
  • Paid parental leave
  • Investment in career growth and training
  • Thought leadership and peer recognition program
  • “Day of Learning” events
  • Reimbursements for headphones, cell phones, device upgrades, and SVOD services of Mux customers
  • Catered meals and snacks
