Job Description

We are looking for a strategy associate to join Monzo’s small but growing US team based in San Francisco and help us accelerate our American launch. You will work on a range of projects in order to help us launch a new digital bank in the USA (we applied for a National Bank Charter with the OCC earlier this year). 

To succeed, you should be excited about starting a business, navigating the US regulatory landscape, using data to shape your thinking and collaborating with partners and colleagues to build something bigger than yourself. We’d want you to apply if you are underwhelmed by the status quo of banking and finance and are interested in bringing your brainpower, quantitative skills and grit to creating a better alternative. 

You’ll have a lot of freedom to shape your own career as Monzo’s US team grows. While we value specific experience in the areas detailed below, you can expect that you will come to work on a wide range of projects. This might mean that you move projects every three to six months or take a leadership role in a part of the business that you care about.

You should apply if:

  • You are a strategic and analytical thinker, in your element understanding and bringing structure to complex problems, whether they’re based on regulation, legal documents, business processes, technology or payment systems
  • You’re numerate and data oriented: you love getting deep in a spreadsheet (as a plus you can write a SQL query to help you solve problems)
  • You’ve led projects from beginning to end across a number of disciplines, and are comfortable collaborating with senior internal and external stakeholders (such as regulators, board members and partners / vendors)

Relevant experience is:

  • 3+ years work experience in operations or strategy in a similar environment like a high-growth FinTech, bank or consulting firm
  • Working knowledge of the US financial services sector, with bonus points for experience in digital banking, FinTech or lending. We’re particularly interested in talking to you if your experience includes building and launching new financial services products into the US market.
  • Specific skill sets that aren’t required but would be helpful include:
    • Commercial decision making and vendor selection
    • Project management including third party integrations
    • Management of projects with the OCC, FDIC or other US regulators
    • Marketing, product launch, customer research and analysis

Logistics 

  • The interview process consists of a phone interview, a written exercise and video calls with the team
  • This role is based in San Francisco but will be fully remote until safe to be in an office and we have a flexible work-from-home policy
