The Opportunity

The Engagement Camp in Culture Amp’s Product Group builds and maintains the flagship employee engagement product upon which Culture Amp was founded. One of the two permanent teams in this Camp is looking for a new Tech Lead, as their current one is moving to another role within the company.

Our teams are cross-functional, so as a Tech Lead you would lead the engineers building the web UI, back end API, and AWS infrastructure for all of the features it owns. You don’t have to be an expert in all those things, but you will need to lead engineers who are. You’ll also work with a delivery lead, designer, product manager and QA engineer on most projects.

In part of this team of amazing humans, 

You will (the role)

  • actively grow the other engineers in your team,
  • deliver new features and refinements to Culture Amp’s most-used product,
  • devise and advance technical initiatives to improve our systems and codebases, and
  • share knowledge from your team across Product Group – blog posts, brown bags, whatever works.

You have (technical skills)

  • strong technical skills and experience in web application development, ideally aligned to our stack (Ruby/Rails and/or TypeScript/React),
  • experience working with designers and product owners to turn a feature spec into an engineering implementation plan,
  • experience designing a technical architecture vision and roadmap for the evolution of a large codebase, and
  • a proven track record of end-to-end ownership of technical work: designing solutions and bringing others along in their implementation.

You are (human skills)

  • an experienced mentor or coach, or have other ways to ensure the growth of engineers in a team,
  • a clear and considerate communicator, able to express robust opinions, and reason about and synthesise contrasting opinions and other points of view,
  • a productive contributor to your team’s agile delivery process (e.g. breaking a scope of work into individual stories for implementation),
  • able to navigate the tension between long term and short term planning.
