Job Description

Memrise is an award-winning language learning system with a growing user base of over 50 million.

At Memrise we know it's impossible to learn a language unless you can master three key skills.

Basic translation of words and phrases

Understanding them when they’re used in real-life situations

Being understood by other people

Translation is the easy part and many other products do this well but our method is the only one that will help people to master all three.

Your clear purpose is to focus on filling the top of the funnel with quality traffic that converts into registrations and you will work closely with the Commercial Team to ensure we hit our registration, revenue and retention goals.

The Opportunity:

We’re looking for an ambitious creative who never stops thinking about new ways to increase brand awareness and acquire new customers. We are after a bold and entrepreneurial individual who is a solid PR expert, completely immersed in contemporary social media and all the latest micro-trends. The icing on the cake would be previous success building brand partnerships in as creative a way as possible to drive brand awareness. As VP of Marketing you will report directly to the CMO and play a critical role in helping people to discover Memrise across multiple markets, domains and languages but with a primary focus on the US/UK.

With modest budgets you need to make every penny count and having a highly creative approach to identifying untapped audiences and channels is a must.

The Team:

Our team values empathy for the people we work with and the community we work for. We support each other. We are purposeful in our actions and effective at collaboration.

This position is mostly based in London although we do have some flexibility around working location.
Requirements

Create and deliver plans to ensure we fill the top of the funnel with quality traffic and installs

Take ownership of all new channel innovation by using customer data, key industry and consumer trends to steer the team’s focus and prioritise new channels to test

Execute a best in class PR and social strategy

Support the Commercial team on SEO content strategies and optimisations.

Design, plan and run programs to build a network of strategic brand and influencer partners.

Collaborate with the product team to define and execute how best to maximise referrals and social features to promote viral growth.

Manage a small paid marketing budget and determine the best ROI to drive eyeballs to the product

Build and maintain strong relationships with Google and Apple to secure featurings.

You might be a good fit if you have/are:

Creativity is one of your biggest assets - you don’t just follow what’s been done before, you lead the way

You understand the importance of brand storytelling and can help us to stand out from the pack

You thrive on working at pace and can juggle multiple projects simultaneously

Strong analytical skills, with the ability to turn complex, disparate data sets into insights that drive growth strategies

Sound knowledge of Google Analytics and expert understanding of marketing attribution. You know how to use data and reporting to ensure targets are met.

You possess first class communication skills, allowing you to successfully influence and communicate complex information clearly to your team, stakeholders and the wider organisation

You’re an energy giver with a positive outlook. You get the job done.

You can preempt and identify roadblocks, solving them with invention, innovation and empathy

You have experience of planning and executing paid marketing (and tracking ROI) to bolster organic activity

You understand the power of consumer advocacy and how it can accelerate growth

The ideal candidate will excel in both tactical and strategic responsibilities

You act fast, but identify failure even faster

Critical thinking, collaboration and thoughtful insights are a must
