Our Communications team is instrumental to Nextdoor differentiating itself as a purpose driven company committed to cultivating a kinder world where everyone has a neighborhood they can rely on. To deliver on this mandate, we are searching for a world class Head of Communications, who connects with our purpose and has the unique ability to harness and convert our stories and experiences to steward the brand, reputation and impact of Nextdoor. This communications leader will report to the Head of Marketing, Community and Global and oversee strategic communications efforts across corporate, internal, product, global and social communications disciplines. 

The Head of Communications is a strategic, analytical and highly collaborative leader who will be critical in building our brand, enhancing our story-telling and managing our reputation in a measurable and metrics driven manner. This person is highly capable and comfortable operating at a strategic, tactical and operational level to meet business objectives and support Nextdoor’s long term branding and positioning. In addition, this person has experience leading and cultivating strong teams and is someone who enables the team to level up as a result of their leadership, agility and grace.

The Impact You’ll Make

  • Strategy and Planning
    • Create and deliver global communications plans that drive long-term brand building and deliver on business goals across public relations, social media, analyst relations, community engagement, content strategy, corporate and internal communications.
    • Translate broad strategies into clear, specific objectives and key results for teams. 
    • Work closely with the analytics teams to develop tracking methodologies to measure the business impact of work delivered by the communications function, instilling a culture of measurement and continuous improvement in your team’s work.
    • Leverage innovative and emerging technology channels to enhance delivery of Nextdoor messaging.
    • Measure and report on communications’ contribution to company-wide and functional OKRs.
    • Provide budget and complex stakeholder management, including driving value from agency relationships in all key regions and markets globally.
  • Leadership & Collaboration
    • Work seamlessly with the Marketing team, recognizing the blurred lines between traditional marketing and communications roles and identifying opportunities to elevate investments made in paid, owned and earned media.
    • Work closely with our global communications and PR teams, who report into the country managers, to ensure alignment on Nextdoor messaging and positioning. 
    • Be a key driver of how we amplify and advance our reputation with key external stakeholders.
    • Partner with other senior leaders across the company to deliver consistent, aligned and impactful communications; ensure that corporate and internal communications are in lockstep and that which fully utilizes other initiatives and programs.
    • Be a critical member of our Marketing Leadership team, and provide strategic communications counsel to our C-staff and senior leadership across the company.
  • People Development
    • Oversee and grow a strong, integrated communications team.
    • Manage and mentor a team of passionate communications professionals.  

What You’ll Bring to The House

  • 15+ years demonstrated ability in a leadership position within communications, public relations in a global capacity.
  • Demonstrated history of working in the technology industry and experience leading a high-performance, distributed team. Consumer platform experience preferred.
  • Significant experience in positively handling high-profile, including crisis communications issues, demonstrating sound judgment and persuasive counseling to senior management.
  • Strategic thinker with expertise in defining and crafting business positioning, and managing company messaging through considerable growth and expansion. 
  • Extensive relationships with diverse press contacts. 
  • Proven track record of delivering impactful external and internal communications, including message development, communications planning, segmentation and measurement. With regard to expert-level measurement and reporting acumen, a clear understanding of how this maps to broader marketing and whole-of-business outcomes.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships with senior leadership and interface effectively and positively with internal and external stakeholders. 
  • Experience partnering and scaling efforts with global and regional agencies and strategic partners.
  • Experienced in handling transformational shifts within an organization and ability to manage the differences in opinions and culture.
