Job Description
This unique opportunity within the Infinera CTO optical systems group will challenge you to contribute with your engineering expertise to the development, specification, and validation of network design algorithms and models for next-generation optical networks. These models will be at the core of network planning and management systems to be used by engineers throughout the world to design and deploy the most advanced transport networks.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Develop network design algorithms and models for planning and operating next-generation optical networks
- Benchmark the performance and continuously investigate improvements to the algorithms/models
- Specify the routing and capacity planning engine for the multi-layer network planning tool and transport controller
- Implement the developed algorithms and models for the purpose of proof of concept and validation
- Contribute to on time delivery and maintenance of the technical specifications
- Document the algorithms and models to be implemented and provide guidance and support to the software development and system verification teams
- Compare network designs for emerging transponder and line system architectures
- Support customized and/or forward-looking network designs
Requirements:
- Expertise in multi-layer network design and/or network planning and optimization
- Good understanding of physical impairments in fiber systems and coherent high baud rate transmitter/receiver
- Good understanding of optimization methods, namely integer linear programming models, heuristic and meta-heuristic algorithms. Familiar with machine learning techniques
- Proficient programming skills in Python, Matlab, C/C++
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Very good organization skills and ability to work in a multi-disciplinary, multi-site team
- MSc or PhD in engineering or computer science
- Experience with optical network elements, network planning tools or network management system/controller is desirable
