About TransferWise

TransferWise is the clever new alternative to banks and brokers, that allows people to transfer money abroad at a lower cost than ever before. It uses technology developed by the people who built Skype and PayPal to remove all the fees the foreign exchange industry has kept hidden for decades. Customers transfer more than half a billion pounds every month using TransferWise, putting £22 million back in their pockets - and that's a number that is growing rapidly!

Our culture is driven by empowering people to make intelligent decisions with our customer at the centre. We hire intelligent people, and believe they can reach their full potential when given the autonomy to experiment and develop innovative ways to deliver a better product.

Our people are extremely proud of working here and that shows through the commitment and passion in everyday life at TransferWise. This is a place where you will develop yourself as well as make a very visible difference for people worldwide.

Job Description

What’s it all about?

The Legal Team at TransferWise is a small team, but with a wide-reaching impact across our company. The team is responsible for managing and/or providing advice and oversight on key legal processes that represent particular legal risk and/or legal complexity – as well as building the legal infrastructure that sets TransferWise up for success in the future.

We also provide legal advice, guidance and support to Regions, Tribes and Teams, as well as advising on and providing touchpoints to core legal processes when necessary.

Your Mission:

  • You’ll be a key member of the Legal Support Team based in Tallinn – carrying out a variety of legal tasks to ensure that our customers, our Legal Team and the wider company have the support and resources they need;
  • You’ll make it easy to get legal tasks done – and support on providing the tools and guidance that allow teams to self-serve in an intuitive way;
  • You’ll help teams reduce the amount of time they need to spend on legal matters;
  • You’ll be helping to ensure we keep legal distractions and costs to a minimum;
  • You’ll support on legal projects that set up TransferWise for success in the future;
  • You’ll play an important role in protecting the interests of TransferWise and its customers.

More Info:

  • You’ll provide support to both the core and advisory functions of the Legal Team – such as risk management, contract review and enforceability, and advising teams on ad hoc legal questions they have;
  • You’ll communicate directly (and indirectly!) with our customers and third parties – responding to requests for information, supporting our Customer Service Team on legal questions, and responding to requests for information;
  • You’ll support on the drafting and review legal documents such as vendor agreements, witness statements, NDAs and terms of service;
  • You’ll get involved with defending TransferWise on both customer and non-customer litigation and claims;
  • You’ll be a key point of communication between the Legal Team and the entire company – helping to solve problems quickly, or helping to find the right person to help!

This role will give you the opportunity to:

  • Play an important role in TransferWise’s global Legal Team – and be a part of a growing legal function that will help set TransferWise up for success in the future;
  • Ultimately gain a wealth of legal experience which will allow you to grow and develop into your legal career;
  • Get acquainted with different jurisdictions and become a specialist in the FinTech law

What we’re looking for:

  • Excellent verbal and written English – another language is also an advantage;
  • Excellent organisational skills;
  • Strong communication skills, including the ability to adjust your approach depending on the needs of each individual task;
  • Ability to multi-task and take responsibility in challenging situations;
  • A keen eye for detail and the ability to spot the needle-in-the-haystack that others might miss;
  • The confidence to make decisions independently – and the boldness to call out the right from the wrong, regardless of the audience.
  • Previous experience with legal matters or company secretarial work is a benefit but not essential.
  • The position needs to be filled in the Tallinn office only – we aren’t necessarily planning on relocations for the position, but if you’re in another office and feel the job is perfect for you, get your application in and we can take this into consideration.

We’re people without borders — without judgement or prejudice, too. We want to work with the best people, no matter their background. So if you’re passionate about learning new things and keen to join our mission, you’ll fit right in.

Also, qualifications aren’t that important to us. If you’ve got great experience, and you’re great at articulating your thinking, we’d like to hear from you.

And because we believe that diverse teams build better products, we’d especially love to hear from you if you’re from an under-represented demographic.
