Vir Biotechnology (Vir), a San Francisco based company with a results-oriented mission to end infectious disease, is seeking a Lab Manager for its Portland, Oregon site. This role will work cross-functionally to operate and support general lab activity and safety programs. The lab manger will support the implementation of technologies to drive innovation, efficiency, and productivity in the lab. The lab manager is responsible for vendor relationships and service agreements including maintenance and repair of laboratory facilities and equipment. 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES

    • Support lab procedures, cleaning schedules, and maintain organizational standards.
    • Serve as point of contact for vendors and suppliers of laboratory consumables, process gasses, laundry services, and waste management.
    • Lead inventory and purchasing, identify vendors and procure products, materials, and services as needed.
    • Handle data-loggers for critical environments within the facility (incubators, refrigerators, freezers, etc.).
    • Supervise calibration, certification, and preventative maintenance for equipment.
    • Participate in regular laboratory meetings to discuss issues, resolve problems, and communicate policies.
    • BA/BS in biology, biochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related field
    • 5+ years of experience working in a biological or chemical laboratory setting
    • 1+ year overseeing equipment or performing other laboratory management functions
    • Ability to work as a team, coordinate and integrate with other laboratories / departments throughout the organization. Successful background working with a multidisciplinary team.
    • Proven track record to effectively balance priorities in a complex, exciting environment; flexibility to adapt to change.
    • Technical writing skills and experience authoring work instructions and forms.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to work on inter-disciplinary and cross-functional teams.
    • Knowledge of/experience with laboratory work including cell culture and molecular biology a plus.
