About Castle

Castle helps businesses keep their customers’ online accounts safe from human-powered account takeovers, automated credential stuffing, risky user transactions and other attacks impersonating users.

Job Description

At Castle, we're on a mission to protect online users against hackers and bots. Our vision is to be the easiest and most developer friendly way of adding user account security processes to your platform. Using our APIs, companies can track user interactions to figure out when accounts have been compromised as well as giving their users the ability to recover their accounts eg. by sending out an email notification or text message.
Why join us
Castle has compelling, challenging problems to solve, and a team of great people to work with. As a part of a company that is building something truly valuable to customers, you'll get the chance to see your work be used hundreds of millions of people, and will learn and develop your skills due to the scale of the traffic and customers we support. Castle is also rare in its focus on our people — you'll see that reflected in everything we do, from our values to our benefits, to the way we work together. Inclusion is something we've thought about since the company's founding.

You will

    • Own and define new features from prototype to delivery. You should feel comfortable writing an application through the entire software development lifecycle.
    • Work across the stack to deliver new features that help secure the accounts of hundreds of millions of people. Your work will be to build elegant user-facing APIs and backend services in Ruby, and to implement compelling, usable UIs in Angular.
    • Own meaningful parts of our service, have an impact, and grow with the company.
    • Collaborate with an an international team, with people in Europe and the US.

You know

    • Experience with multiple backend languages, and deep experience in at least one. Ruby experience is helpful.
    • How to do work in a high-throughput environment. You'll be focusing more on customer facing features than scaling projects, but you should be aware of the implications of an n+1 query pattern, and how to make performant code.
    • API Development. Our product is an API, so this is a large part of the surface area for your work.
    • Data structures and algorithms, profiling and optimization
    • A frontend framework, preferably Angular or React (we use Angular with NgRx).
    • How to design and engineer high-quality UIs
    • How to work with a large application using frameworks like Rails/Express.js/Nest.js.
    • Good design sense. You care about developer ergonomics, API design, and a good user experience

You value

    • Code simplicity, performance, and details
    • A fast, high-growth startup environment with a lot of autonomy
    • Being a part of and contributing to an inclusive and inviting company culture

You are

    • Customer-focused. You can trace your work back to how it's solving problems for customers or the company.
    • Able to work independently, but are a great team member.
    • Located in the United States.

Our benefits

    • Competitive salary package
    • MacBook Pro, 27-inch screen monitor
    • Development opportunities, including IT conferences, and an individual development budget
    • Flexible work hours
    • Annual off-sites, team events and the possibility to visit and work from our offices in Cracow, Malmö and San Francisco (after Covid)
    • Unlimited PTO
    • Paid parental leave
    • $500 work from home setup contribution
    • Employee stock purchase plan with a 10 year post-termination option exercise window
This opportunity is available to candidates that are currently located within the US.
