Job Description

Reporting to the CTO of Invoice Cloud’s subsidiary, Payment Services Network (PSN), the Director of Software Engineering will be responsible for the ongoing architectural evolution, development, and maintenance of PSN’s electronic bill presentment and payments SaaS platform.  The Director will drive the transformation of the PSN engineering team through the systematic implementation of best practices including agile, test-driven development and continuous integration and deployment. This is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on leader with deep technical skills who has a passion for building and growing high-performance engineering teams dedicated to delivering innovative SaaS products used by thousands of businesses and millions of customers. We are looking for a technologist with leadership experience in financial services, preferably in the payments domain, who will be a strong business partner and problem-solver, a well-regarded and respected leader, and a hands-on engineer who can design and deliver complex software solutions. What You'll Do:

First 90 days

  • Develop an understanding of the current business model, major initiatives and key stakeholders.
  • Develop an understanding of the current technology organization and assess people, process and tools in use.
  • Identity and prioritize key initial initiatives and areas of improvement.
  • Become familiar with key systems design, code and operational processes.
  • Begin active involvement with major projects.
  • Demonstrate ability to support, modify and add new functionality to the current software applications.

Ongoing

The Director of Software Engineering will have a broad set of responsibilities including the following:

  • Lead, coach and support a team of engineers to foster a high-performance culture.
  • Build a technical culture that fosters high ambition, accountability, and desire to make an impact.
  • Recruit strong engineering talent and participate in the full recruiting process including attracting and closing on talented candidates.
  • Set technical vision and direction for the team. Ensure the team understands company’s vision and that they are inspired and motivated to help realize it.
  • Build trusting relationships and collaborate across all internal teams and with key business partners to execute on company strategy.
  • Work closely with product management and peers in technology team to balance resource allocation among product roadmap, technology roadmap and other prioritized initiatives.
  • Encourage a highly communicative culture that ensures open, transparent, and consistent exchange with key stakeholders.
  • Drive evolution and advancement of engineering, quality, maintenance, and support practices.
  • Champion agile best practices around continuous integration, test-driven development and continuous deployment.
  • Ensure application releases occur regularly, timely and with high quality.
  • Play a critical lead role in the architecture, design, development and technical decision making of all applications.
  • Take a hands-on approach to coach and mentor the team; demonstrate full ownership and accountability for the team’s initiatives.
  • Perform periodic on-call support for after-hours deployment/maintenance windows.

Who We Seek

  • 10+ years of professional software engineering experience with 5+ years of proven success as an engineering leader.
  • 5+ years of experience with technologies we currently use
    • .Net framework (VB.NET, C#, ASP.NET (WebForms, MVC, WebAPI), Visual Studio
    • T-SQL, ADO.NET, SQL Server
    • Team Foundation Server / VSTS / Azure DevOps
    • JQuery, JS, HTML, and CSS
    • Microsoft Azure or similar cloud technology vendors
  • Solid technical background in enterprise software development, preferably within financial services or FinTech (banking, lending, payments).
  • Understanding of software security best practices.
  • Experience leading and coaching agile best practices and related methodologies (Scrum, Kanban etc).
  • Experience with transactional databases and caching systems.
  • Experience with test-driven development (unit and integration testing) and continuous integration.
  • Experience with and understanding of best practices in building public, internal APIs and integration frameworks.
  • Experience with scalable, distributed systems using event-driven architecture.
  • Experience with performance tuning production architecture.
