Job Description

Sai Life Sciences is an expanding Contract Research & Development and Manufacturing Organisation
(CDMO) working with 7 of the top 10 pharma companies globally, as well as many leading smaller

Marking the completion of 20 years since inception in 2019, the company began an organisation-wide
initiative to significantly expand and upgrade its R&D and manufacturing facilities, deepen scientific &
technological capabilities, strengthen automation and data systems, and above all raise the bar for
safety, quality and customer focus. Guided by the insights and feedback from its customers, it
committed to investing over US$150M between 2019 and 2023. Part of this investment in 2020 were
the new state of the art laboratories in our centre of excellence for process chemistry and analytical
development at the Alderley Park Biotech & Life Science Cluster, where we are now looking to
significantly expand both staff numbers and capabilities. Our team currently consists of 24 multidisciplinary scientists (chemists, analysts and engineers).

Non-GMP manufacture of kg quantities of intermediates and APIs is currently possible within our
bespoke Scale-up laboratory facility. During 2021 a new GMP Kilo-lab facility will be created capable of
multi-kg quantities of GMP API suitable for early phase clinical studies. The developed processes may
then be transferred to Sai’s manufacturing sites in India for further scale-up as required.

The Role

We are looking for an experienced Scientific Leader who is seeking a new challenge to a lead a team
of analytical chemists.
 You will join a team that identifies, develops and optimises synthetic routes to APIs, supporting
both early and late phase development.
 The successful candidates will have a background in Analytical Chemistry combined with
demonstrated expertise in HPLC and experience of other analytical methodologies utilized to
characterise APIs, intermediates and raw materials.
 The successful candidate will have experience in leading analytical activities supporting project
teams to ensure high quality delivery against project timelines.
 The successful candidate will have experience in line management of a small team of people
with a track record of personal development of the members of the team.
 Experience in contracting analytical testing with third parties and leading communications with
customers would also be advantageous.
 The candidate is expected to support chemistry projects, develop, validate and carry out
technical transfer of analytical methods and provide analytical expert advice to Process
Chemistry colleagues

Essential Requirements

 Higher or bachelor's degree in chemistry or related scientific discipline with relevant experience
in Analytical Project and Team Leadership.
 Experienced in regulatory requirements for the development and validation of methods
supporting the release of API into toxicological and clinical studies.
 In-depth, hands-on expertise and up-to-date knowledge of analytical methodologies supporting
the clinical development of APIs.
 A demonstrated ability to manage several projects in different stages of development at the
same time and to lead and drive the scientific output of those projects.
 Strong scientific track record with both project and line leadership experience.
 Experience in working to GMP requirements.
