Position Summary:

Our In Vivo Sciences team is growing and has an exciting opportunity for a talented, motivated and highly versatile candidate for a Surgery and Perfusion role. In this role, you will join the In Vivo Surgery Team to lead the development and delivery of specialized research models, in partnership with animal care staff and research associates. You will contribute as part of a multidisciplinary team to develop novel therapies to treat liver diseases using cell and gene therapy strategies.

What you will do:

  • Utilize strong depth of knowledge in anatomy/physiology and technical skill, with an ability to work independently and within a team to competently deliver high quality animal models and tissue sets which are consistent and reproducible.
  • Apply proficient expertise in preclinical perfusion techniques, necropsy, tissue specimen collection and labeling. Advanced technical knowledge in tissue processing, embedding; microtomy and slide staining is a plus.
  • Demonstrate competency to perform routine survival surgical procedures, with the commitment to learning new techniques, following principles of asepsis.
  • Recognize normal/abnormal behavior and animal welfare issues associated with in vivo procedures.
  • Follow written protocols with minimal error, generate quality data in compliance with GLP guidelines and submit the data in a timely manner.
  • Co-author and review work practices and guidelines to meet standards for consistency, and reproducibility and animal welfare.
  • Participate in technical training, competency assessments, and recommend solutions for staff on performing necropsy/histopathology/surgery procedures per protocol.
  • Develop, foster and maintain collaborative and team relationships with internal groups/ departments, and other organizations associated with the program.

Qualifications:

  • High School or GED required. Associates (A.S. / A.A.) or Bachelors degree (B.A. /B.S.)
  • 2+ years of perfusion, necropsy and/or aseptic surgical experience
  • 5+ year experience in a research or commercial setting
  • Experience working within high throughput study protocols in GLP and non-GLP settings
  • AALAS certification preferred
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be accepted as a satisfactory substitute for the specific education and experience listed above
  • Experience working in an animal program adhering to accreditation and regulatory standards (i.e. USDA, OLAW, FDA, AAALAC etc.) is strongly preferred
