About GoCardless

A cloud-based disruptive payments service provider. They are the world leader in providing a bank-independent online platform for frictionless direct debit and recurring payments for improved customer service.

Job Description

About us

GoCardless is on a mission to take the pain out of getting paid, so our customers can focus on what they do best. With the world shifting to a Subscription Economy, GoCardless is powering recurring payments across the globe via our world-first payments network. We’ve cut out the intermediaries by linking together direct debit schemes from around the world to create a simple way of pulling payments directly from customers’ bank accounts.

We process more than $15bn a year, for over 50,000 businesses in more than 30 countries, and we’re growing fast. Our API powers recurring payments for companies like Survey Monkey, Bulb and the Financial Times. It also enables partners including Xero, Quickbooks and Sage to help small businesses to save countless hours spent chasing customers for payments.

Help a cutting-edge, dynamic and fast-growing fintech company prove to clients, regulators and other important stakeholders that it meets high standards for risk management and compliance in its regulated services.

GoCardless processes billions in payments each year. Tens of thousands of businesses around the world rely on us to handle their payments.

We treat our license obligations and risk management programmes as more than a box-ticking exercise. It’s how we demonstrate to clients, and to our regulators and other important stakeholders, that our services can be trusted. So we’re looking for the right person to join the Risk department and help us run and optimise our enterprise risk management programmes.

The role:

You’ll report to the Chief Risk Officer and help run the programmes that protect and grow GoCardless. The programmes you’ll help keep on track will address a variety of risk management topics, including enterprise risk management, policy management, operational resilience and business continuity and incident management. These programmes are all key parts of our sales proposition and our regulatory compliance.

The role will involve:

Applying the tools and processes that keep our enterprise risk management programme on track, coordinating input from risk owners in areas like privacy & security, financial crime, regulatory compliance, payment processing and engineering
Project managing GoCardless’ operational resilience project for 2021, ensuring that the action plan is on track
Helping incident managers across the business, and supporting the improvement of our incident management programme
Being a champion for risk in the company, promote a culture of proactive risk management and helping embed it into our operating model
Defining metrics and reporting that feeds into our enterprise risk management programme
Helping identify ways to communicate our risk management posture effectively to stakeholders, for example through certifications, audits or seals
Working with risk owners and internal or external auditors to identify and track gaps in compliance
Managing the tools that help us keep track of our risk posture; identifying opportunities for automation and the tools to achieve it
Flagging risks, analysing root causes and reporting on results, and escalating issues related to enterprise risk
Communicating frequently to ensure continued support and progress for enterprise risk management across the organisation

What we're looking for

We’re looking for someone who is keen to increase their knowledge of enterprise risk management. Someone who is operational, able to drive processes from design to conclusion and comfortable working independently, while also being a great collaborator on complex multi-team projects.

You will have a head for project management and organisation. You will take a proactive and organised approach, working with teams across the business to get the inputs you need on time.

You know how to keep stakeholders informed and engaged with clear communication and concrete objectives.

We’re a technology business, so it helps if you've had experience in a similar area or an interest in tech outside of work.

We’d love to hear from you if:

You have worked in enterprise risk management, resiliency, incident management, business continuity or other risk programme management, with around 5 years of experience
You are a project-management pro, handling gantt charts with ease
Your communication skills are first class, and you are able to distil complex matters into understandable English
You enjoy finding and implementing new tools and technologies to drive efficiencies
You savour a challenge, don’t get disheartened easily and drive projects through to completion
You are easy to work with, and want to work in a fun, fast-growing and fast-paced young company

Bonus points if:

You’ve got a professional certification in a related field
You have experience at a startup or in a similar-sized, similarly regulated organisation

This role will provide you the opportunity to lead key activities to progress your career. It would ideally suit someone with some experience dealing directly with risk & compliance frameworks. However, we recognise that the most talented people can have the most unusual backgrounds, so if you’re unsure, please apply. The role will be based in London and we are looking to employ the right person full time, but will consider part-time applicants.

GoCardless embraces diversity and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer. We are committed to building a team that represents a variety of backgrounds, perspectives, and skills. The more inclusive we are, the better our work will be.

We offer a varied package of flexible working and benefit policies. From flexible working hours and working from home arrangements, through to enhanced parental leave, pension packages and equity. GoCardless has a very family and work life balance orientated environment. Our team comes from a variety of backgrounds and we embrace diversity – if you’re unsure, please apply.

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, everyone at GoCardless has shifted to remote working since mid-March and will continue to work remotely until the end of the year. We are committed to support all employees during this time and continue to monitor the situation closely. Some of the actions we’ve taken to support the wellbeing of our employees as we transitioned to and continue working in a remote set-up are: subsidised home office equipment, remote workstation assessments, and remote wellbeing and social activities to stay in touch.
