Job Description

The Medical Director leads the clinical effort around Somatus’ Population Health efforts in all patient population markets. The Medical Director serves as the physician champion for Somatus initiatives, engaging other nephrologists and PCPs in the market.

 Essential Functions:

  • Experience with directing utilization management efforts of CKD and ESRD patients in the inpatient and outpatient environment
  • Participates with the investigation, tracking and data reporting of quality improvement projects
  • Stays informed about National, State and Local emerging policies, regulations and standards and the impact on patients’ care delivery and prepares policy implications as requested
  • Supports the thought strategy and protocol development for Population Health programs
  • Conducts clinical data reviews and uses data to guide care delivery and improvements to ensure that standard of care is being met
  • Ability to be a communication conduit with local PCP’s, nephrologist and hospitals/dialysis units particularly when urgent care gaps are identified
  • Collaborates with Somatus data analysts to streamline ways of accessing and presenting patient data such that it can drive clinical performance
  • Experience with peer to peer complaint management between physicians and/or healthcare provider
  • Maintains strong knowledge of medical and social issues, CKD & ESRD research related to prevention, care and treatment advancements
  • Experience with healthcare industries, including major hospital systems, other significant providers, City and State agencies, and relevant community-based organizations and agencies
  • Participates in treatment team activities to include the development and periodic review of patient treatment plans and partners with patient’s medical team if adherence is not met
  • Provides clinical oversight to Somatus care management team, including participation and recommendations in care team rounds

 Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

 Required Education and Experience:

  • Graduation from an approved school of medicine and completion of an approved residency in Nephrology and Board eligible; and
  • A license to practice in pertinent state; and
  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the field of Nephrology in a responsible medical and clinical administrative capacity

  • Creative problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify areas of common ground across potentially competing points-of-view
  • Excellent communication skills, including written and oral presentation skills, with the ability to engage, build credibility and engender trust across all levels of an organization
  • Intermediate-level competency in use of tools supporting all job duties, including Excel, PowerPoint, Word
