Position Summary:
The Vice President, Business Development will be responsible for the leadership of Business Development efforts with a specific focus on identifying and establishing relationships with pharmaceutical companies. The Vice President, Business Development will work collaboratively and in conjunction with Product, Medical Affairs, Marketing and Sales, Client Services/Commercial Operations and Finance to identify and create significant new growth opportunities that exploit Karius’ core technologies and competencies.

Reports to: President & Chief Product Officer 

Location: Redwood City, CA 

Primary Responsibilities
•  Develop, manage and oversee the execution of Karius’ Business Development strategy.
•  Proactively source and evaluate partner candidates to meet our identified business needs.
•  Launch new markets and introduce novel testing concepts and technologies.
•  Facilitate the ongoing development of Karius’ partnership strategy & manage the overall partner program with broad cross-functional collaboration.
•  Develop and implement customer-specific action plans.
•  Lead new partner deals, negotiate business terms and contrat handling.
•  Develop and deliver presentations and proposals; manage detailed project/enactment plan for opportunities deemed of interest to the company.
•  Attend clinical meetings, seminars and conferences as appropriate.
•  Proactively identify changes in healthcare, delivery systems and competitive pressures to develop and modify strategies and tactics accordingly

Travel: Up to 20% 

Physical Requirements
Subject to extended periods of sitting and/or standing, vision to monitor and moderate noise levels. Work is generally performed in an office environment. 

Position Requirements
•  Bachelor’s degree required, advanced degree preferred in a scientific discipline with MBA or PhD highly desirable10+ years business development management experience and 5+ years experience in hospital, clinical laboratory, and/or life science markets
Expertise positioning premium products into multi-departmental organizations
•  Proven business analysis and judgment with the ability to proactively manage business and P&L to meet objectives
Strategy development, project management, problem solving and change management skills
•  Superior skill set in Alliance Management
•  Proactive approach to analyzing, diagnosing, and prescribing strategic business solutions to meet company business development goals.
•  Experience planning and driving new product launch strategies in conjunction with product marketing
•  Provide consistent field interaction and communication to ensure the company's message is clearly communicated
•  Ability to connect with and coordinate between key customers and internal/external stakeholders to promote and expand business opportunities

•  Excellent written and verbal executive communication
•  Track record of introducing novel business opportunities that are in line with the company’s existing operations and that could provide entry into new areas of strategic focus
•  Ability to effectively collaborate with peers in other functions and with team members in other functions
•  Proven track record in managing growth business in complex and competitive markets
•  Strong business acumen and use of business analytics to prioritize, lead and influence
•  A strong track record of hiring, assessing, training and developing high quality market development managers
•  In partnership with team leaders, ability to apply clinical and scientific knowledge to present and facilitate review and consideration of new opportunities
•  Excellent analytical and abstract reasoning skills
