Job Description
The Principal Design Engineer - Transceiver module, is responsible for the design of PCBs for coherent pluggable transceivers.
Job duties
- Shared responsibility for the design and development of coherent fiber optic transceivers. Directly responsible for PCB design of transceiver PCB: architecture, analysis, layout, simulation, and measurement of electrical performance.
- Part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team working on optical transceiver products: firmware, optics, mechanical, and process engineers.
- Must have in-depth understanding/intuition of electrical engineering solution to power, noise, control, thermal, and EMI design requirements.
- Must be willing to be hands-on in every step of the design process such as create concept designs, document designs, make prototypes, verify prototypes, & select final designs.
- Schematic capture, working with the CAD engineer to layout circuitry for high-speed circuits, create BOMs and ECOs to document design.
- Resolve all DFM requirements from process/production engineering and component suppliers.
- Perform transceiver design review for Architectural, EVT, DVT phase review.
- Degree required M.S. or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or Physics preferred, or equivalent education and experience
Skills
- Strong circuit design skills, with an understanding of layout for mixed-signal dense PCBs, is required
- Background in linear system theory, feedback, ICs, and high-speed fundamentals highly desirable
- Strong laboratory measurement skills required
- Demonstrated expertise and understanding of high speed, multilayer circuit boards design that include embedded processors, FPGA’s, SERDES
- Familiarity with industry-standard communication protocols: RS232, I2C, SPI, Ethernet
- Experience with electronics CAD tools and electronic system modeling
- Understanding of microprocessors and real-time control firmware a plus
- Familiarity with fiber optic transceivers a plus
- Expertise in RF design using modeling tools such as CST or HFSS a plus
