Job Description

Guild is hiring a Head of Policy to lead the strategy and execution of government engagement efforts, steer efforts around public policy and to partner with Guild’s executive team to stay engaged with and align our efforts to the landscape of regulatory, Congressional and federal policy issues.

This is an opportunity to serve in a newly formed role and to deepen Guild’s public policy work and connection with leading public policy makers and to advocate for working adult learners. We are looking for a leader with an established track record who can deliver impactful advice and strategies around key issues. This role is a good fit for someone with diverse interests in policy work at the intersection of business, the future of work, and higher education. This leader will work closely with Guild’s senior executive team, our external affairs and communications teams, and other key stakeholders impacted by federal policy.

In this role, you will:

  • Define and execute strategy for managing public policy and government relations, with a primary focus on federal policy, and a secondary focus on engaging state and quasi-regulatory bodies focused on education and labor and workforce development issues.
  • Proactively drive an agenda at the national level on policy and regulations supporting Guild’s students, employer partners, academic partners and key stakeholders.
  • Manage external resources focused on Guild’s policy and public affairs initiatives at the federal and state level.
  • Collaborate with other key stakeholders across Guild to keep them abreast of policy issues and define and articulate a public policy strategy.
  • Collaborate with Guild’s employer partners and universities on public policy initiatives to drive shared outcomes.

You are a strong fit for this role if you have:

  • A track record of defining and owning an organization’s policy and advocacy strategy. You’ve succeeded at implementing an agenda.
  • Expertise and/or strong intellectual curiosity related to the intersection of education, labor, automation and technology.
  • Worked in a high-growth organization with an understanding of the demands of startups and/or technology companies.
  • At least 8–10 years of experience in public policy, government relations and/or advocacy.
  • Experience building and maintaining relationships with key policy stakeholders.
  • Superb communication skills; ability to shape communication to clients that will produce impact, engagement and results.
  • Experience working cross functionally in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment.
  • Comfort serving at both a strategic and operational level. Willing to both set a strategy and lead the execution of that strategy in a startup environment.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to build and maintain strong relationships with senior stakeholders internally and externally and to communicate effectively while under pressure– balancing confidence, humility and diplomacy.
