We are looking for a detail-oriented, efficient, hands-on Production Manager for Wattpad Books to handle the print and ebook production process for a growing list of commercial fiction titles. This role will also support overarching department schedules and planning, including the management and communication of the overarching seasonal sales dates provided by our key sales partners and production deadlines for key marketing materials.  Reporting to the Head of Publishing, you will work closely with the Publishing Director to deliver best-in-class books on time and on budget. You will also work cross-functionally with sales, marketing, and operations to provide production support as needed.  This is a high-impact position where you will play a key role in shaping the Wattpad Books brand and drive real change from the bottom up.

What you’ll be doing:

    • Book Production (70%)
    • Establish and maintain clear editorial and production schedules for 30-50 books annually, including ARCs, with an eye toward keeping projects on time and in budget 
    • Ensure all internal staff and external freelancers are aware of and meet their manuscript, copy edit, typesetting, and proofreading deadlines throughout the editorial process  
    • Oversee the book covers process securing necessary stakeholder review and approval to ensure covers deliver on time for key selling moments, ONIX deadlines, and final release to printer
    • Set and manage a weekly production meeting
    • Work with an existing stable of printers to secure estimates, determine specs, set printer dates, and cut purchase orders
    • Distribute e-pub and covers to Macmillan
    • Coordinate with sales on print and bind due dates, making recommendations on print quantities based on account feedback and comp title history.
  • Cross-Functional Tasks (30%)
  • Monitor and regularly communicate key seasonal sales dates to the entire Wattpad Books team, ensuring list management tasks are discussed in a timely manner to make necessary adjustments for the sales cycle
  • Deliver all seasonal assets to distribution partners and foreign partners
  • Review and distribute weekly change memo to internal and external stakeholders
  • Liaise with marketing department and provide advice / guidance on marketing material scheduling as needed

What we’re looking for:

  • You have 5+ years experience in book production and 7+ years experience in project management
  • You have used a title management system and project management system in the past (Wattpad Books uses Biblio for title management and Asana for project management)
  • You are a natural problem solver and are able to break down complex challenges into manageable and achievable actions 
  • You are proactive and eager to share your knowledge and ideas 
  • You love the tactile nature of books and approach production with a creative edge
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong project management skills, a sense of urgency, and ability to balance competing priorities and projects simultaneously
  • Copyediting and proofreading certifications a plus
