We are looking for an energetic and talented individual to join our multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate will work with our biologists and chemists to support the development of small molecules and/or oligonucleotides targeting hepatologic diseases, including chronic hepatitis B (CHB), nonalcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC).

 

Specific skills and Responsibilities:

 

  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture (cell lines and primary cells) and handling of RNA (isolation/purification).
  • Working knowledge of PCR/qPCR, SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, ELISA, reporter-based assays, and transfection protocols.
  • Experience with medium to high throughput assay setup and analysis.
  • Other desirable skills include accurate pipetting, aseptic technique, solutions preparation, lab supply maintenance, and documentation.
  • Ability to organize/analyze/present data using spreadsheets, databases, and statistics/graphic software.
  • Experience with NGS library preparation and QC, including RNA-Seq library preparation, and ability to establish NGS methods and perform sequencing-based assays is a plus.
  • Basic computational coding skills (Python, R) to handle bioinformatics data is a plus.

 

Essential Duties and Job Functions:

The Research Associate / Associate Scientist will join as a member of the Biochemistry group. This position is primarily lab-based and involves working with supervisors to improve assay protocols and taking a major role in the development, optimization, and validation of new assays. The successful candidate will apply basic cell and molecular biology techniques to identify and characterize efficacy and selectivity endpoints in in vitro and in vivo systems, supporting preclinical drug discovery programs in a multi-disciplinary, fast-paced environment. Duties will include faithfully executing scientific protocols, optimizing cellular and molecular assays, analyzing and reporting results, maintaining detailed records of experiments and outcomes, and participating in group research discussions.

 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills:

Requires a B.A./B.S./M.S. and minimum 2 years of laboratory experience in biochemistry, molecular biology, or a related field. Must be able to participate in highly effective teams where the core values of integrity, teamwork, attention to details, accountability and excellence are being observed. Demonstrates ability to recognize anomalous and inconsistent results and interpret experimental outcomes.
