About Newsela

Newsela is an education technology startup providing daily news articles that are extracted from national and regional newspapers.

Job Description

The Partnerships Associate will ensure the world’s best content is available to students and teachers by ensuring smooth management of our ecosystem of existing content partnerships. You will collaborate closely with our Content Partnerships, Editorial, Instructional Content, and Finance teams to manage content requests, track licensing spend, support invoicing processes, and support partner engagement activities. You’ll also lead the charge in pulling, organizing, and synthesizing data for internal content strategy decisions in addition to content partnership plans. You will identify potential strategic relationships within our ecosystem of 100+ content partners. Additionally, you’ll help support cross-functional teams with copyright questions & permissions, and will renegotiate and renew licensing agreements.

Why You’ll Love This Role:

You’re passionate about bringing great content directly to K-12 classrooms. So much of Newsela’s future relies on our ability to foster relationships and establish strategic content partnerships. Your work will not only directly support long term product vision - it will help drive accessibility in education. You’ll also have the opportunity to build relationships with top content brands. Working with folks from the best names in the content world is beyond fun. We’re always getting sneak peek versions of content. You’ll get to see early previews of new content & be responsible for surfacing recommendations to our team of editors and content producers. With a growing ecosystem of partners, the processes you build, the reports you run, and the content you request will truly help our business decide where we spend our time, money, and focus. The content we secure will be used by millions of students & teachers - and every article matters.

Why We’ll Love You:

With 1-3 years of experience in an external-facing role (e.g. partnerships, account management, sales, customer support), you are meticulously organized and effective at juggling numerous priorities, deadlines, budgets, contracts, and projects. You’re a confident negotiator, can communicate persuasively in both written and verbal formats, can masterfully lead meetings with external executives, and are able to firmly and fairly negotiate with external partners. You’re able analyze and adapt processes to drive greater organization and efficiency. You’re comfortable navigating complex spreadsheets & budget reports, and are eager to use data to measure impact and inform decision-making. With a passion for education and our mission, you are excited to use your intuition in identifying highly engaging content.

About Newsela:

One of the fastest growing tech companies in K-12 education, Newsela was founded on the principle that while every child may have unique learning preferences, they all deserve a rich learning experience that ignites a love of learning. We built our platform based on learning science research to deliver the most engaging, authentic content to modernize how teaching happens in the classroom. Along with interactive assessments and tools, we provide teachers with digital content at five reading levels -- from +100 of the best sources -- that is relevant to the diverse backgrounds and interests of their students. Since we started in 2013, we’ve established a presence in 90% of U.S. K-12 schools and over 2.5M teachers and 37M students have registered with Newsela.
