Job Description

Parsley Health is a motivated team with a mission to transform the health of everyone, everywhere through the best possible medicine. Our work is inspired by our members’ journey and our actions are focused on impact and results. We excel in a high-paced work environment while appreciating what it means to be healthy and well.

As National Medical Director, you are responsible first and foremost for the success of our 100+ person, quickly growing clinical team. It will be your mission to support and empower the professional growth, clinical success, and positive work environment of all clinicians and health coaches at Parsley Health.

You will also own the setting and delivering on our quarterly and annual strategy to improve and elevate the clinical experience through key initiatives that ladder up to company OKRs. The clinical experience at Parsley is measured by provider satisfaction and retention, clinical efficiency and quality, clinical innovation, members’ clinical experience, and the success of cross-functional initiatives that include engineering and product leads, clinical operations, finance and marketing.  As such, you are responsible for having a close pulse for how your clinical leaders, and their corresponding direct reports, are performing on an ongoing basis, and swiftly identifying and resolving friction points that need resolution. You are expected to partner closely with business leaders to define and communicate clinical strategy, to solicit team buy-in on new initiatives, and generate ‘disagree and commit’ mentality as needed from the clinical team when key decisions are made.

In addition to these people management responsibilities, you will act as the clinical representative at the leadership and executive levels to help create close positive communication across clinical and non-clinical teams, and to ensure the clinical perspective is present at both strategic and tactical levels.

You Will:

  • Team: Own people management responsibilities for clinical team. People on your team are engaged, productive and focused, understanding their role in driving business KRs and incentivized to perform. Underperforming teammates are identified early and effectively managed. You own hiring and firing conversations in partnership with People and relevant GM. Address intra-team conflict swiftly and head-on, with triads not dyads.  You partner with VP, Ops and People as needed to re-evaluate growing team’s organizational structure.
  • Leading the leaders: Empowering and upleveling your tranche of clinical leaders (Lead Doctors, Lead Coaches) to effectively manage the growing clinical organization. Coaching leaders to swiftly identify employees who are struggling to hit metrics or expectations using early indicators and providing a customized, individual performance plan guiding them back to success; similarly, coaching leaders to swiftly identify rockstars and give them path to grow. Promoting a ‘can do’ mindset with your clinical leaders.
  • Head of Clinical Quality: Own clinical quality metrics, clinical guidelines for standards of care, and clinical approval of relationships with outside vendors. Act as in both a consulting and operational co-owner capacity on strategic business questions requiring clinical guidance (or delegating to a designee) - examples may include:
    • Partner with the Product and L&D teams to improve upon physician panel size initiatives.
    • Partner with People team to improve upon physician offerings and recruiting processes.
    • Partner with Marketing and MX teams to improve upon messaging and setting of member expectations coming into Parsley.
  • Cross Functional Leadership: Participate actively in company leadership group, contributing to the strategic direction of the business, as well as addressing day to day business challenges, serving as the voice of clinical quality and experience.
  • Positive team culture: Partnering with Leadership to deliver critical messaging to doctors and coaches; ensuring buy in across the team, especially in moments of change management. Rallying and incentivizing teams to meet or surpass goals. Partnering with General Managers of Center and Virtual product lines to promote a positive, collaborative culture in line with our service norms.
  • Clinical Brand-Promoting Activities: Supporting (as requested) growth and recruiting initiatives which may result in presenting at conferences, events, etc. Responsible for owning investor and VIP visits, as requested.
  • Model Doctor: Managing a small number of patients. Demonstrating excellence in completing doctor responsibilities [see Doctor job description]. This includes managing sessions with members and, producing detailed, customized, well-written health plans.
  • Cross Functional Leadership: Participate actively in company leadership group, contributing to the strategic direction of the business, as well as addressing day to day business challenges, serving as the voice of clinical quality and experience.

You Have:
