About the Role

Uber's Safety Operations Team is dedicated to reducing incidents and improving safety for all of our users across our global operations. You'll work with operations, product, data science and legal to ensure Uber is an ultra safe transportation and delivery platform. Safety is at the core of the Uber experience, and you'll be a catalyst to the team's global efforts and successes.

What You'll Do

  • Set Vision & Influence Change: Work closely with business leaders across the company to develop and refine our strategy for background checks globally, ensuring that we have accurate and efficient screening vendors, tools, and processes to hold a high safety bar for platform access
  • Strategic Thinking: Design and build a global screening strategy that considers Uber's growing use cases and platform roles: drivers, riders, couriers, eaters as well as merchants, restaurants, grocery, and non-food to ensure cohesion and proper risk mitigation
  • Innovate: Think ahead of the curve. Lead the industry on best-in-class screenings that balance Uber's safety needs with business objectives and fairness to our users, amidst increased data privacy regulations
  • Program/Project Management: Detailed, multi-tasking, effective individual driving cross-functional groups to decisions on strategically important questions
  • Process improvement: Identify operational and structural weaknesses and help improve existing or develop new processes to keep us as efficient as possible. Improve overall safety on Uber's platform by taking a data-driven approach to issue identification, root cause analysis, and improvement rollouts.
  • Scale: Analyze business operations and ensure we are operating at the highest possible scale while also leveraging our in-market resources
  • Build Relationships: Interface with other functional areas (Product, Business Development, Policy, Public Affairs, Legal, Engineering, Central Operations, etc.) to ensure we are bringing all available tools to bear on our toughest problems
  • Lead by example: Be incredibly truth-seeking with data, set a high bar for the team to think boldly and creatively and then to funnel that energy into concrete processes and execution plans, move fast, be biased toward action

What You Will Need / Bonus Points

  • 6+ years experience, with 2+ years in a role managing a team in high-growth technology companies or multinational company with an established safety culture
  • Deep subject matter knowledge and practical expertise in either screenings or identity (preferably both) with proven track record to execute global programs at scale
  • Understanding of business operations and competing pressures a business leader faces on a day to day basis
  • Ability to work with remote teams and across time zones to develop strategies and foster a cohesive and creative work environment
  • Proficiency in data driven analysis
  • Personal dedication to safety as the end result
  • Strong knowledge and practical expertise in risk management frameworks and how to apply them
  • Comfortable influencing discussions at the highest levels and a demonstrated ability to find common ground and align stakeholders and teams with conflicting agendas
  • A demonstrated ability to thrive under pressure in an unstructured, fast-paced environment
