Job Description

As a Business Analyst / Sr. Business Analyst Credit Cards you will be responsible for applying your strategic and analytical skills to the credit risk, pricing, and valuation of Oportun’s credit card product. Credit Cards are Oportun’s next step to provide a full suite of financial services to consumers with limited credit history. In this role you will leverage multiple data sources, deep customer understanding, and analytical rigor to make credit strategy recommendations and execute the growth playbook of the credit card business. You will be a key performer in the scaling of the product, collaborating closely with Oportun’s marketing, engineering, design, operations, and finance teams. This is an exciting opportunity in a fast-paced organization where your contributions will have a meaningful impact on broadening access to financial products for consumers with little or no credit history.



  • Optimize credit risk, pricing, and product strategies based on analytical insights
  • Run economic models that support product structure, segmentation, and pricing recommendations
  • Validate product/market fit, ground key assumptions, and calibrate unit economic expectations
  • Collaborate with the Risk Engineering team to flawlessly integrate strategies into Oportun’s proprietary risk scoring platform
  • Closely monitor customer credit profiles and performance, adjusting strategies to meet target loss rates
  • Execute, monitor, and improve the credit line increase program
  • Hands on implementation of the risk strategies for the credit card program
  • Create clear and concise presentations and reporting packages for senior leadership
  • Collaborate with data engineering to develop in-depth data analytics and business intelligence tools


  • Working Python, SAS and SQL (or similar language) programming skills
  • Working Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong interpersonal and relationship building skills
  • Ability to drive product and credit strategy recommendations through execution
  • A proven track record of decision making and problem solving based on analytics
  • Adaptive to a changing environment and have the drive to get things done

  • Flexible in prioritizing work, managing multiple tasks and meeting deadlines


  • Four-year college degree in a quantitative discipline such as Economics, Finance, Engineering, Math, Statistics, Business, Science or Computer Science
  • Relevant college internship and work experience in an analysis discipline (such as business and data analytics, statistics or consulting)
  • 1+ years in business analysis and using SQL preferred
  • 1+ years of experience in financial services, consulting, data science or risk management preferred
