The Role & The Team

We are seeking an exceptional Logistics and Facilities Coordinator to join our team based in our Redwood City site. Working closely with members of the Finance, Operations, Engineering and R&D teams, this individual will be responsible for all shipping and receiving for the company, including hazardous materials. In addition the successful candidate will have the ability to perform minor site improvement projects and routine equipment & facility maintenance activities.

The ideal candidate will have significant hands-on experience in the life sciences, pharmaceutical, materials and/or biotechnology industries and will be familiar with the needs of research and production environments. The successful candidate is likely to have at least 4 years of related experience as a facilities engineer, logistics coordinator, or similar role.

 

Responsibilities & Goals

Areas of specific responsibility and attention will include:

  • Accepts deliveries and assists in unloading shipments from delivery truck
  • Coordinates and executes product shipping to customers and vendors
  • Coordinates and monitors hazardous waste pickups
  • Uses dollies and other moving equipment to transport shipments from loading dock and around stockroom
  • Maintains digital records of all received/shipped shipments and keeps inventory database up to date
  • Reports any major or unresolved shipment delays or problems to the purchaser
  • Opens packages, checks shipping invoice to ensure all items are accounted for, and confirms receipt of items with the purchaser and Accounts Payable
  • Processes returns for any defective or incorrect items and contacts the distributor to resolve any shipment discrepancies
  • Stores, restocks, and shelves delivery items
  • Cleans and organizes the loading dock and supply rooms
  • Performs routine site maintenance and executes small improvement projects
  • Coordinates vendor maintenance activities

 

Background & Qualifications

The successful candidate for the position of Facilities and Logistics Coordinator will ideally have experience in the life sciences industry and will be comfortable working in a lab setting. Candidates must bring a strong entrepreneurial orientation along with teamwork skills and an absolute commitment to completing tasks with the highest level of integrity.

 

Key requirements include:

  • High school diploma/GED required; Associate’s degree a plus
  • DOT/IATA and/or forklift operators certifications a plus
  • 2+ years of related experience as a shipping and/or facilities coordinator required, 4+ years preferred
  • Proficient in using Microsoft Excel and/or other database software
  • Demonstrated ability to safely and professionally complete various small mechanical and electrical projects
  • Comfort and experience working with different types of hazardous materials
  • Ability to occasionally work overtime, including some Saturday shifts
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Organized and collaborative work ethic; must be both a self-starter and a team-player
  • Must work well in a small team setting, with the ability to work independently and collaboratively, while meeting scheduled deadlines in a fast-paced environment

 

Physical Demands & Working Conditions:

  • Be able to operate a computer & moving equipment such as dollies
  • Able to lift up to 50 lbs Able to push/pull up to 150 pounds of drag weight with hook
  • Able to push/pull up to 800 pounds of wheeled weight
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (up to 8 hours)
  • Frequent walking, bending, twisting, and lifting
  • Wear protective equipment including a lab coat, gloves, safety glasses, and safety shoes.
