Job Description
The world of commercial radar systems is unique. The products in this space must meet demanding Size-Weight and Power (SWAP) goals while being low-cost, highly producible, and reliable. At Echodyne we must assess unique and burgeoning markets for advanced commercial radars and react quickly by defining, designing, and releasing products at a rapid pace to quickly prove market hypotheses.
The RF Design Engineer plays a key role in every phase of the product lifecycle (Definition, Exploration, Architecting, Design, Development, Verification, Production, and Sustainment). In each phase they will pull from their background in RF circuit design to aid in the quick decision making and progression through the smallest assessments to the largest architecture trades.
Responsibilities:
- Drive RF circuit designs for advanced commercial radars through design, implementation, test, and transition to manufacturing
- Work in a state-of-the-art RF and electronics lab developing tests and bringing-up first-of-kind printed circuit assemblies.
Required skills / experience:
- Experience in RF Circuit Design for dense electronics assemblies:
- Multi-Chip RF module design experience utilizing off-the-shelf packaged components (e.g. power amplifiers, driver amplifiers, digitally controlled phase-shifters and attenuators)
- Design and implementation of compact RF printed circuit components (e.g. dividers and combiners, quad hybrids and transitions in microstrip and stripline)
- Design and implementation of support circuits (e.g. power control circuitry, fault monitoring and isolation circuitry)
- Experience designing RF components and modules in AWR Microwave Office, Ansys Electronics Desktop (circuit), HFSS/CST
- Experience with HW bring-up in the lab including checkout and Design Verification Testing (DVT) of new RF designs
- Familiar with the importance of understanding RF cascades (gain, noise, compression, etc.)
- Experience of RF designs including part selection trades, schematic capture, layout and simulation
- Schematic capture and layout for complex custom PCB RF Designs (managing part libraries and BOMs) using Altium/Cadence or equivalent
- Design and generation of RF/Microwave circuit layouts and components and associated fabrication drawings and gerber/tool files
Desired Experience:
- Experience designing under challenging thermal and mechanical constraints
- Experience designing circuits for radar applications
- Experience designing RF circuits that interface with antennas and/or antenna arrays
Qualifications:
- MS or BS Degree in EE
- 5-7 years’ experience in RF Circuit Design for Communications or Radar
