Job Description
A leading role within the Adaptimmune IP department driving the filing of patent and patent applications and other IP rights applicable to Adaptimmune’s TCR T-cell therapies. The role requires strong business focus and experience at managing a multi-jurisdictional patent portfolio together with ability to partner with the business and steer the business accordingly.
Key Responsibilities
Identifying and advising in relation to patentability of new developments within the process development and research terms at Adaptimmune including invention identification, third party IP analysis, competitive analysis, validity opinions, oppositions, litigation and managing external patent agents (70%)
Driving the longer term IP strategy at Adaptimmune including engaging business leaders to determine strategy and approach (20%)
Liaising internally within relevant Adaptimmune teams to answer IP-related questions and to enhance internal IP understanding (5%)
Managing IP work flow and external patent agents and internal IP team (5%)
Qualifications & Experience
Required
Experience: Proven management and experience of patent matters, typically spanning multiple jurisdictions
Qualifications:
- Excellent academic results including at degree level (chemistry or biotech fields)
- Fully qualified European Patent Attorney (with US experience) or US patent attorney (with EU prosecution experience)
- Working knowledge of multiple jurisdictions, in particular EU and US
- Strong written and spoken communication skills in English
Desirable
- Previous experience in-house
- Previous experience in the biopharmaceutical industry, particularly in immunotherapy field or relevant technology experience in immune related field.

Senior role with independence and responsibility for areas of practice. Reporting in to GC and IP forum, patent agent is expected to guide and steer Adaptimmune in relation to patent prosecution, third party clearances, competitive intelligence and other IP matters.
