Job Description

Culture Biosciences is hiring a Business Operations Associate to be the first member of our business support team. You will implement systems and manage activities that help our entire company run more effectively, covering everything from people operations (HR) and finance responsibilities to office management and executive support.

This role will require you to be a fast learner and organized multitasker. Some experience in executive support, office management, or human resources is a plus.

Culture Biosciences develops technology that accelerates the manufacturing and scale-up of our customers’ transformative bioproducts - we can grow everything from foods to polymers to pharmaceutical products. Our first product offering is a cloud bioreactor facility that allows biotechnology companies to design, run, and analyze high-throughput bioreactor experiments through our web application.

The Role:

This person will be a member of Culture Biosciences’ Operations team. You will develop new business processes, be a primary contact for external administrative partners, and independently perform routine activities essential to supporting our employees’ wellbeing. This is an opportunity to manage a range of administrative and logistical challenges facing a rapidly growing company.

Responsibilities include:

  • Hiring: Manage new job openings, interview schedules, and onboarding new employees. Help create systems and tools to scale our hiring process.
  • Benefits Management: Primary point of contact for benefits partners.
  • HR Projects: Work on a variety of projects to ensure compliance with local, state, and federal requirements and create efficient systems for our team.
  • Office Management: Purchase supplies for general office use, manage space allocation, organize systems to support employee success. Primary contact for campus facilities and security partners. Set up and maintain systems for visitor tracking.
  • Special Events: Support virtual and in-person event planning for internal and external activities.
  • Finance Operations: Track and code incoming invoices in our accounting system. Track details to support our outgoing invoices. Draft outgoing invoices.
  • Finance Projects: Lead projects to improve financial management systems.

Qualifications and relevant experience:

  • Experience in office management, executive support, HR operations, or expense management at an early stage company.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, managing many simultaneous projects.
  • Detail oriented and extremely organized.
  • Proven ability to learn new skills quickly.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Able to represent the company professionally in external interactions, and able to summarize situations and responses clearly and succinctly to support decisions and actions.
  • Comfortable with change and with taking on a wide range of responsibilities, sometimes at short notice.
  • Proficient user of GSuite products; ideally has managed a variety of SaaS business applications.
  • Must be able to work full time on site in our South San Francisco office when COVID-19 restrictions are lifted.

Benefits include:

  • Competitive salary and equity compensation
  • Medical (PPO), Dental, Vision, and Life insurance
  • 401(k) plan with company match
  • 3 weeks of paid time off and 10 days of company holidays
  • 12 weeks of parental leave at full salary
  • Access to on-site child care facility, subject to availability
  • Free onsite breakfast, lunch, snacks, and coffee, and a gym with showers and classes (when not under COVID-19 restrictions)
  • Support for relevant educational opportunities

Note: Culture Biosciences team members are working from home whenever possible as we do our part to slow the spread of COVID-19. As this changes and we can bring more staff back to the premises, this role will be full time on site in our South San Francisco office.

Culture Biosciences provides equal employment opportunities to all employees and applicants. We seek to build a company that promotes inclusion and expands the diversity of our industry as a whole. We encourage people with identities underrepresented in biotech to apply.
