Be responsible for synthetic biology, cell engineering and Immunology!

Building on 25 years of work in award-winning labs, the platform is supported by a strong IP portfolio and is backed by a top tier syndicate, led by Polaris Partners.

We are seeking an experienced, creative, and motivated Senior Scientist to join our rapidly growing team. In this role, you will contribute to the company’s platform technology of engineered satellite organs. Specifically, you will be part of our cross-functional R&D team developing new engineered cell lines for implantable grafts.

This role is a unique opportunity to join an early-stage, well-funded Biotech startup. You will initially report directly to the Chief Technology Officer and be responsible for synthetic biology, cell engineering and immunology. This position is full-time with laboratory time being on-site at our facilities located in Cambridge, MA.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, lead, and manage work involving cell engineering and synthetic biology including all stages of design, cloning, and characterization of engineered constructs.
  • Create novel human cell lines across various classes of cells for preclinical animal studies.
  • Using a variety of methods, modify cell lines to express novel markers.
  • Provide immunology expertise for animal studies.
  • Mentor and advise research associates in execution of associated laboratory activities.
  • Plan, direct, and execute tasks across projects according to project timelines and goals.
  • Design, direct, and execute experiments.
  • Develop protocols, work instructions, test methods, and draft and review technical reports.
  • Play a lead role in regular internal project meetings and data reviews.
  • Maintain a clear, detailed documentation of all experiments and findings

Required Qualifications & Experience:

  • PhD in Synthetic Biology, Bioengineering, Immunology or similar field with 2-5 years of experience in an industry setting.
  • Experience engineering lymphocytic, endothelial, parenchymal, or stromal cells.
  • Demonstrated experience with viral and non-viral delivery methods, multiple gene editing technologies, cell engineering, and cell line generation.
  • Expertise with molecular and cellular biology techniques in mammalian systems: molecular cloning, plasmid design and purification, gene assembly, organism engineering, and viral vector engineering, production, and use.
  • Experience with techniques such as cell isolation from mixed cultures, in vitro cytotoxicity assays, functional assays using FACS, ELISA, and other methods, and in vivo mouse model experiments.
  • Excellent data and statistical analysis skills and experience with a variety of scientific software applications is required.
  • Track record of staying up to date with the latest developments in the field.
  • Working knowledge Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS), biostatistics, and/or basic bioinformatics is desirable
  • Experience with high-throughput functional screens and/or inducible switches for control of gene expression is a plus.
  • Demonstrated problem solving, experimental design, and scientific writing skills; can document laboratory procedures and experiments with great attention to detail.
  • Comfortable in a fast-paced company and able to adjust workload and responsibilities based upon changing priorities
