Job Description

Who are we?

WorldRemit is changing the way people send money abroad. We’ve taken something complicated and made it simple, so that sending money is as easy as sending a text message Tap the WorldRemit app or head to on our website, and your international transfer is made – to a bank account, cash pickup, Mobile Money, or airtime top-up. Founded in 2010, we send international remittances from 50 countries to more than 150 countries and we continue to expand our footprint.

Using WorldRemit is easy because we do the hard part, connecting hundreds of banks, money agents, mobile operators and payment systems around the world. These were never designed to work together, but WorldRemit makes it happen.

WorldRemit has grown - on average - by 50% year on year and is now processing over £3.1bn of remittances on an annualised basis. WorldRemit’s success, and the size of the market it is operating in, means it has attracted investment from the world’s leading technology and impact investors, Accel, Technology Crossover Ventures (TCV) and Leapfrog with $370m invested to date. We currently employ close to 1,000 employees and have offices in London, USA, Philippines, Poland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Japan, Hong Kong and other locations.

The journey is just beginning. We believe in faster, simpler, more accessible money transfers. That means building better products and services for our customers.

Changing the world isn’t easy – so we only hire the most talented people. You need to think differently, believe in new solutions to old problems, and have the drive to make them happen. We aim to attract, retain and develop people that can bring to life our values:

  • Aim high - We dream big, think bold and go the extra mile
  • Embrace challenge - We ask questions, start conversations, and always love to learn
  • Do what’s right - We act with integrity, building trust in ourselves and in our business

About the role:

WorldRemit is hiring a Senior Product Designer to help us design financial service experiences for economic migrants and their extended families.

Product designers at WorldRemit are fascinated by the entire design process - from research to user interface design.   Whilst each person tends to have in depth expertise in some areas more than others, what we all share is a desire to become excellent all-round designers. Most of your time will be spent working with the product managers, developers, data analysts and QA engineers in your cross-functional squad.

A typical week might look like

  • Work with PMs and specialist UX researchers to articulate the most pressing outcomes we need to deliver. Each cross-functional team is given the agency to tackle those opportunities as they see fit whilst still working towards the larger product and company vision.
  • Plan research with our UX Researchers - whether generative or evaluative.
  • Facilitate ideation across the whole team through, for example, workshops or design sprints.
  • Design a number of different potential solutions and prototyping them
  • Create beautiful UI utilising our fledgling design system whilst also pushing the system forward
  • Take part in our regular design team critique sessions where we support each other to our best work
  • Present your work to the wider company
  • Communicate your designs to devs appropriately and then working with them to design practical solutions to implement

About you

Before we tell you about what we’re looking for, this is a senior position so we do expect you to have some good experience doing what we describe but, just to be clear, we don’t expect you to tick all of these boxes. If you’re a talented designer who can knock this job out the park, then show us your portfolio! We’re especially keen to hear from people with diverse backgrounds.

  •   You’ll be obsessed with typography, imagery, layout, colour and how they can be used to tell a compelling story to our users.
  •   You can eloquently and persuasively articulate why you designed something the way you did; you are equally comfortable explaining that rationale to senior management as you are to other designers and engineers.
  •   You’re intelligent, passionate about design, and endlessly curious. Your craving to learn new things is only outweighed by your urge to share your knowledge with others. You’re naturally observant and that awareness means you’re forever spotting ways to improve the world around you
  •   You see yourself as a maker. You move quickly and are creative of course but you also have a healthy dose of pragmatism that tends you towards getting things shipped and in front of users
  •   You work well with developers and can understand the limitations of digital products, whilst still pushing at those boundaries
  •   Being a great designer at WorldRemit is about driving people towards your vision of a better experience. Your optimism will help you realize that vision
  •   You are keen to connect with our users to understand the motivations behind their behaviours and so create experiences that move beyond mere problem solving and engage them on an emotional level.
  •   You’re able to work on a couple of things at the same time, whilst also dipping into other streams of work to provide advice and critique.
  •   You’re friendly, humble and approachable but also have the courage and principles to back your designs whilst taking onboard contrary evidence. In short, you have strong opinions, weakly held.
  •   Domain knowledge in financial service products would be a nice bonus but you do have experience working on complex problems

What’s in for you

  • Life assurance of 3 times your salary, should the worst happen.
  • Pension scheme offering 8% matched contributions.
  • Private medical and dental care plans.
  • 25 days of holiday plus bank holidays, rising to 28 after 3 years.
