About Grove Collaborative

Grove started as an idea between three friends talking in a spare bedroom in San Francisco: what if it was easy to find healthier home essentials? The belief that what we bring into our homes contributes to that homey, cozy feel prompted them to try to make their idea a reality.

Job Description

Each month, millions of customers use our web and native apps (powered by our custom e-commerce backend) to help make better decisions about the products they use in their homes. We work in full-stack Agile product teams to cultivate autonomy, collaboration, and speed.
Our primary technology stack is Django + Python on the backend, with Kotlin (Android) and Swift (iOS) for the Apps. On any given day, you'll find engineers collaborating to track down the source of a strange pattern in our metrics, pair programming on a piece of brand new functionality, heads-down on a challenging refactor, or meeting with other departments to understand the business context for what we're building.  Our strong unit test suites (well...only medium-strong on the front-end) and end-to-end Selenium and Cypress tests let us refactor and release with certainty. We operate with shared trust and enjoy being 'in this together' to meet the challenges of a scaling business.
As a part of our growing Mobile Engineering team, you will have a hand in architecting the technology and customer experience that run our Apps on Android. You will join a team of world-class, highly motivated software engineers and business owners to understand technical implementation of features. Mobile engineers will also work with groups such as Product Management, Designers, and other Development teams to understand APIs, data models and develop features to solve real-world problems for our customers and always seeking to avoid defects or find them earlier in the process.
As a full time mobile developer on the team, you will have a hand in defining features that powers our Android App. You will collaborate to deliver a high-quality software architecture with the scalability, maintainability, and performance needed to match the staggering growth of our company. You love finding practical solutions to problems that will grow with the company and a proven ability to design, develop, and ship software that customers love.

Your Impact:

    • Work with engineering leadership to create a mobile app roadmap and deliver against it
    • Use your ideas to implement features and demonstrate how it ought to be done
    • Own the Mobile App build process
    • Lead the ongoing development and evolution of our Mobile apps
    • Collaborate closely with other engineers to create solid, robust code
    • Ship high-value features and own the impact of your solutions
    • Advocate for new and better ways we should develop, and discover and implement new best practices for the development organization
    • Work with product managers to brainstorm and create products that are loved by our customers
    • Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee of this job. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice.

About You:

    • 5+ years of experience in software engineering
    • 3+ years in mobile development in Android (Kotlin, Java)
    • Excellent knowledge of Mobile UI design principles, material design guidelines, patterns, and best practices.
    • Significant experience in building mobile applications with an emphasis on performance and robustness
    • Experience in mobile instrumentation, monitoring, CI/CD, analytics, and the mobile app lifecycle
    • Experience collaborating with design and cross functional engineering teams to make the complex simple for the user
    • Proven record launching and supporting apps through the Google Play store
    • Ability to learn new technologies quickly
    • Outstanding communication skills, both verbal and written

    • Comprehensive healthcare plans
    • Unlimited PTO and paid family leave
    • Home office stipend while remote
