The role

At SoFi we are  looking for a Software Engineer to join our team focusing on the Money Product.   You’ll help engineer multiple platforms that enable our core banking-domain focused products and services. The ideal candidate is a person who has supported and or configured mission critical production systems, has application troubleshooting expertise, has the ability to read code with an eye on performance, is strong in database concepts and maintenance.

You will lead the development efforts and collaborate with a group of talented software engineers. You will collaborate with business and product leadership and solve a wide range of challenges.  You will be involved in the entire product lifecycle, from ideation, coding, testing, deploying, monitoring, and supporting mission-critical systems  

What you’ll do:

  • Full development life-cycle from project requirement to deployment.

  • Strong database fundamentals, experienced in architecting performance , replication and recovery solutions.  Knowledge of hierarchical models , nice to have. 

  • Support the large infrastructure running Linux in AWS.

  • Work heavily using Docker/Kubernetes/Saltstack/Terraform for configuration management/Kafka Consumers

  • Perform FIS Profile banking system support for Production and Non-production environments from infrastructure and application level

  • Perform application governance and compliance related tasks like Disaster Recovery, Access Reviews, Application audit support etc.

  • Provide off hours production systems support as and when scheduled and required

  • Collaborate with various operations team partners within the bank (tellers, risk,warehouse etc.) and provide day to day production support

  • Work on automation and improvement of data exchanges and data pipelines between internal and external teams. 

  • Convert business requirements into technical implementations.

  • Consistently demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, ingenuity, and creativity. Develops and applies advanced technologies, engineering principles, theories, and concepts. Broad knowledge about the design and operation of systems outside of specialty.

  • Work cross-functionally with other teams to help make their features fully accessible to all users. This role offers a unique chance to touch virtually every feature in SoFi's digital touchpoints.

What you’ll need:

  • Bachelor’s Degree, Computer Science Degree or equivalent from a fully-accredited college or university

  • 6+ years of experience in most of the requirements below is desired

    • Experience in hosted services/applications on Linux platforms and basic administration skills on various services (nginx/haproxy, ssh, dnsmasq, ldap, syslog, ntp etc)

    • Database proficiency, their configuration and maintenance plus willingness to learn hierarchical database model (GT.M) including

    • Message Queue systems (native, IBM, cloud based etc.) expertise and support

    • Experienced in stack trace and core dump analysis using various debugger tools and native linux system stat utilities.

    • Demonstrated proficiency writing complex scripts in a standard scripting language (Bourne shell, Python, Ruby, Perl).

    • Experience with AWS services such as EC2, EBS, AZ, VPC, S3, KMS, IAM, VPC, Security groups, Cloudwatch, Route53, ELB etc

    • Extensive knowledge of virtualization and containerization technologies.

    • Experience working with a modern configuration management tool such as Salt, Ansible, Puppet, or Chef; thorough understanding of configuration management concepts.

    • Working knowledge of basic networking concepts, firewall, RPC, application configs and interaction

    • Work and play well with others; DevOps at SoFi is a collaborative environment

  • Git-based distributed version control systems

  • Agile-based project development in a micro-services environment

Nice to have:

  • Binary Tree structures and hierarchical database systems

  • Banking domain concepts and such core systems exposure

  • Enterprise experience with large-scale Kubernetes or dev-compose deployments

  • Knowledge and experience with Setting up and managing cloud infrastructure, especially EBS volumes and IOPs scaling

  • Knowledge of HashiCorp Vault and Consul KV, CoreOs, AWS Linux, Redis, Kafka and ActiveMQ

  • Experience using distributed source code management tools such as Git, GitHub, GitLab or Mercurial

  • Knowledge of Atlassian’s suite of tools, JIRA, Confluence, Bamboo, BitBucket.

  • Familiarity with managing and configuring monitoring tools, such as PagerDuty, OpsGenie, New Relic, Rollbar,  ELK Stack and DataDog.

  • Understanding best practices in architecting high availability systems, and security in an AWS context
