*Please note that our thredUP team is currently working remotely, however, this role will be expected to report to our Oakland location once we are safely able to return to the office.

About the Role
At thredUP, our Accounting team is all about working together to solve problems and
improve processes. As the Director of Revenue Accounting, you will report to the Assistant Controller and work closely with the Operations, Product, FP&A, Technology and Reporting teams on the month-end close process, contract analysis, audits, reporting and more. You will have exposure to dynamic leaders who have built an industry-leading company and brand in a market segment that is ready to explode (read more about our industry in our 2020 Resale Report).


  • Build and scale thredUP's revenue accounting team, serving as our company resource for ASC606 accounting, compliance and research.
  • Provide guidance on accounting for new revenue lines, contract evaluation and modifications to existing revenue programs, including consignment sales, sales promotions, gift card accounting and loyalty programs.
  • Perform preparation, oversight and/or review of month-end revenue journal entries and reconciliations for various revenue-related accounts.
  • Continue to build out our Sales Audit function, reconciling daily cash receipts against revenue and monitoring chargebacks and credit card fees. In addition, provide monthly returns, chargebacks and payment processor reporting to the business, highlighting the drivers for change vs. prior quarters, budget.
  • Use querying software (Looker) to extract large volumes of data from our proprietary e-commerce database; analyze and validate/corroborate data against third-party information.
  • Gain an in-depth understanding of our dynamic business to incorporate revenue concepts into day-to-day operations.
  • Support and enhance business decisions by working closely with stakeholders in product and marketing, providing feedback on revenue and partnership programs to drive outcomes.
  • Partner with our technology teams to build the ecommerce system of the future for accurate and scalable revenue accounting and reporting.
  • Work with external auditors, prepare audit workpapers and provide audit support as necessary.
  • Promote and maintain an effective internal control environment, helping in the ongoing implementation of Sarbanes Oxley.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Economics, or Finance
  • 10+ years of experience with a combination of Big 4 public Accounting and in-house, industry Accounting
  • Expertise in technical revenue accounting, ideally within an ecommerce or retail company
  • CPA certification is a plus!
  • Clear and concise communication skills
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment and work cross-functionally to effect process improvement
