About Lacework

Lacework delivers threat/anomaly detection and compliance across multicloud environments, workloads, containers and K8s.

Job Description

Cloud computing is revolutionizing IT and forcing organizations to rethink their approach to cloud security. Lacework is at the forefront of this transformation. We enable security teams to effectively secure public and private clouds – AWS, Azure or collocations – by eliminating repetitive, manual, and labor-intensive security tasks. Using Lacework, security teams operate security at the same pace as DevOps, which relies on automated tools to publish daily updates to the cloud.

Lacework is led by an experienced team who have built large scale systems at Google, Paraccel (Amazon Redshift), Pure Storage, Oracle, and Juniper networks. Lacework is well funded by a tier-one VC firm and is based in Mountain View, CA.

Our team is growing, and we are looking for an engineering manager with a passion for inspiring engineering confidence by systematically making services reliable and efficient. You will play a key role in building and operating the Lacework Security Platform, the world's best real-time cloud-native threat detection system.

As an engineering manager, you will lead a team of engineers who are working to keep Lacework reliable and scalable. You know that the only thing that matters is Customer Happiness.

Your Role:

  • Automation. Automation. Automation.
  • Empower each of the members of your team to grow, thrive, and find fulfillment in their work. Align the team’s capabilities and interests with the company’s needs.
  • Engage technically on production incidents and in driving execution on project work.
  • Partner with peer managers and senior leaders to find collaborative solutions to wide-ranging challenges, often with ambitious ownership boundaries.
  • Represent your team effectively in roadmap discussions, priority setting, and postmortems.
  • Influence the technical and cultural development of the broader organization, including infrastructure automation, platform engineering, and SRE.
  • Identify problems, develop and maintain solutions and processes that will help drive improvements towards automating Lacework's service and infrastructure.
  • Raise the bar for provable reliability, quality and security.
  • Evangelize good code and solid engineering practices

  • You are a successful lead engineer and/or hands-on manager in a role that included both production support and project delivery responsibilities.
  • Proven ability to lead a geographically distributed team.
  • Ability to write code in at least one language and comfortable reviewing both functional implementation and tests.
  • Love thinking about and anticipating how systems can fail, how failure can be designed for, and how all of it can be monitored with good SLIs.
  • A deep and abiding love of Linux. Or a respectful hatred for it. Either way, you'll need to be able to sed/awk/grep like a pro.
  • Strong experience with large scale Infrastructure, distributed systems, and application performance

  • Desire to "build for lazy" and build systems and computers that reason for us
  • Experience with Java application servers and JVM configuration
  • Experience with monitoring & observability systems like Prometheus or DataDog and tools or frameworks like telegraf and OpenTracing
  • Believe everything should be "as code"

We'd love to hear from you if these kinds of challenges excite you, and you want your work to make a positive difference in the world!
