Job Description

Finomial seeks a Senior Engineering Manager to join our engineering team in Kolkata. The right individual will have the following background and qualities:


  • Proven track record of mentoring and developing early-career staff.
  • Proven track record of empowering and amplifying the effectiveness of established engineering leaders, management staff, and senior individual contributors.
  • Strong process sense: what are the right-sized process for our organization. Can articulate which changes might make sense and why, including what is missing.
  • Will participate in production support escalation process.
  • Not expected to be coding, but she or he “could still do it” from a skills perspective.
  • Will be expected to be involved in design reviews and some code reviews.


This role will report to the CTO.

Roles and Responsibilities: Mission

  • The Senior Engineering Manager has a key role in leading, developing and scaling up engineering capability to keep up with the high growth of their product and to timely deliver a high quality, world-class product
  • Maintain lines of communication with the overseas management team comprising of CXOs, Marketing team and Customer support team to develop a sense of where the company is going and what its overall goals are for the near-term and long-term future. Need to take that knowledge to the floor, ensuring that teams have the resources and understanding they need to move the company forward.
  • Provide inputs, estimates, and plans to the management and technical management for product and feature development. Set and manage expectations, communicate, and execute goals within timelines
  • Understand and collaborate on complete product lifecycle from concept to execution.
  • Own all initiatives to develop and scale technology, execute an aggressive roadmap, institute best engineering practices, and deliver innovative products
  • Developing standards and procedures to ensure that quality standards are met and consistent
  • Would be responsible for Backend, Frontend, Infrastructure, Architecture, Scalability, server-side engineering, UI and all other technological aspects of the product
  • Maintain efficient technical systems that enable the company to run highly efficient operations
  • Help set the technical direction for the team, drive the evolution of the system architecture, and make appropriate technology choices
  • Preparing, optimizing, and proposing overseas engineering budgets to meet short term and long-term goals
  • Recommend new technology and ideas to improve sprints and efficiency
  • Lead and expand the existing engineering team; identify new talent; manage, mentor & retain all members of the team
  • Coordinate with managers and senior members and ensure appropriate utilization of resources
  • Having regular one to one session with the team members
  • Maintain close communication with team and understand who is exceeding expectations, who needs some extra support, and when standards need to be clarified or reaffirmed
  • Need to resolve conflicts or disconnects in the workflow. Need to decide when and how to address them. Should anything get in the way of their engineering teams doing their best work, it is the Senior Engineering Manager’s duty to remove those blocks


Skills and Qualifications


  • Senior level experience in software development with extensive experience in progressing Engineering leadership role
  • Strong track record of being able to develop and set release plans, track deadlines, deliverable, resource allocations, issues / risks and create mitigation strategies as needed to deliver quality product on time. Solid understanding of enterprise grade technologies / B2B SaaS
  • Ability to inspire and lead others: It demands that the Senior Engineering Manager be constantly motivating their teams, making sure that they understand why their work is important, how it contributes to the company, and why they are uniquely positioned to drive those results
  • Focus on execution and a high-quality bar for deliverables. This requires highly developed skills, including:
    • Prioritization
    • Decision-making skills
    • A hands-on attitude.
  • Excellent skills to communicate with stakeholders
  • Must be knowledgeable about industry trends, best practices, and change management
  • Highest level of integrity and exceptional professionalism.
