About Clarifai

Clarifai is headquartered in New York City and was founded in 2013 by Matthew Zeiler to bring the world’s best image recognition technology to market. Our first image recognition systems held the top 5 spots for classifying objects in images in the ImageNet 2013 competition. Since then Clarifai’s deep learning systems have improved orders of magnitude in speed, vocabulary size, memory footprint and have expanded beyond images to extract knowledge from all forms of data.

Job Description

About the Company

Clarifai is an artificial intelligence company that excels at visual recognition. We do not sell an abstract, futuristic technology - we sell a solution that businesses can use to solve real-world problems. We believe that the same AI technology that gives big tech companies a competitive edge should be available to developers and businesses of any size or budget. That’s why we build products to make it easy, quick, and inexpensive for developers and businesses to innovate with AI, go to market faster, and build better customer experiences.

We have secured a $30M Series B round of funding and are backed by Menlo Ventures, Google Ventures, USV, NVIDIA, Qualcomm, Osage, Lux Capital, LDV Capital, and Corazon Capital. To continue to succeed, we need people like you to join the team!

Clarifai is proud to be an equal opportunity workplace dedicated to pursuing and hiring a diverse workforce.

Who We're Looking For

As a Data Strategist, you'll collaborate with our customers to build machine learning models through both our user-friendly platform and the API. You’ll leverage creative thinking and problem-solving skills to visually understand and curate imagery in order to extract real business value from their data. Along with building computer vision models, you'll also have the chance to help build out our natural language processing platform. You’ll work across the entire company, including the research, engineering, customer success, and other teams, in a fast-paced environment.

Your Opportunity

  • Be able to quickly familiarize oneself with Clarifai’s platform and easily adapt to updates/changes.
  • Communicate with our engineers to report (and hopefully recreate) any bugs you might find, providing a qualitative checkpoint for the platform.
  • Do initial discovery, research, and scope out the project. Projects that come to us are rarely organized, properly defined, and fully baked.
  • Explore datasets with the purpose of understanding and being able to manipulate it in order to derive value out of it for machine learning algorithms.
  • Own the quality of all training data and work on proactively identifying issues.
    • Identify visually distinct and consistent themes within data that will allow for the creation of well-defined taxonomies and the curation of nuanced datasets.
    • Take batches of data and label it accurately according to the project requirements with a sufficient level of accuracy, or oversee the annotation of datasets by a team of labellers.
  • Understand and establish model taxonomies and be able to communicate the reasoning behind these decisions with interested parties.
  • Be able to evaluate a model’s performance by interpreting model eval metrics, and also through developing an intuition.
  • Be comfortable using Terminal to run python scripts for data wrangling/management/organization.

Requirements

  • A basic understanding of Computer Vision.
  • Preferred: A background in photography, art, design, or other visually curative role.
  • Ability to analyze and curate imagery based on different visual cues, themes, and categories.
  • 0-2 years experience with data labeling and/or curation; or 1-2 years experience professionally using photo editing software.
  • Previous experience in data wrangling with spreadsheet applications (Google Sheets, Microsoft Excel, Sublime Text, etc.)
  • Comfortable with learning and using new and constantly evolving software tools under deadlines.
  • Effectively communicate to engineers when bugs are discovered in the platform.
  • Capable of handling sensitive and confidential data.

"Nice to Haves"

  • Ability to code in Python or have an interest in learning it.
  • Knowledge of how an API works.
  • Understanding of the .json file format.
  • Experience with Postman.
  • An interest in creating data when we can't source it any other way.
