About Even.com

Even gives you a consistent paycheck every week, no matter how many hours you got this week. Even does this by setting aside a little bit of money for you in good weeks, and by giving you interest-free credit in bad weeks. Plus, get this: if you have a big bill like rent but are short on cash, Even lets you advance extra money now to make sure you’re covered.

Job Description

The problem
More than half of American workers live paycheck-to-paycheck. Stuck in this cycle, they collectively lose over $120 billion each year on payday loans, bank overdrafts, and fees. We’re trying to fix that by building new financial services that make it easier to plan ahead, pay down debt, and save. And we’re doing it as a transparent, straightforward business that only profits when our members do.

Our members trust us to help them in particularly vulnerable moments. We need you to sustain and grow that trust by helping us identify, measure, and manage risks, more specifically compliance risks that threaten our members, our partners, and our business.

The role
As a mission driven company offering financial products, Even must excel in regulatory risk management so we can continue offering high value products at lower costs, while maintaining trust with our members (i.e., employees who are the users and consumers of our products), customers (i.e., employers who retain us to deliver our products to their employees as employee benefits), and external stakeholders, including regulators and bank partners. The Compliance Manager will be responsible for implementing and managing critical elements of risk management; more specifically, monitoring and testing as part of a compliance management program. A successful candidate will bring years of experience within financial services, implementing and operating a robust monitoring, and testing program and supporting implementation of controls.

What you’ll do:

    • Develop, execute, and manage monitoring and testing function to oversee Even’s products and services including third party service providers with respect to regulatory requirements. This includes developing review scope, creating test scripts, working with stakeholders to gather and review data, creating reports, and identifying recommendations for improvements.
    • Review qualitative and quantitative KPIs and KRIs and identify potential areas of risk to Even members or customers.
    • Interact with internal and external stakeholders including bank partners to ensure we continue to meet our compliance obligations.
    • Ensure compliance by developing and maintaining expertise and up-to-date knowledge of regulatory changes and amended laws in all aspects of consumer and business lending, including but not limited to earned wage access programs, savings accounts, and deposit accounts.
    • Participate in the development of regulatory and department policies and/or procedures, as well as in the creation and implementation of tools, guides and other resource materials for an effective control environment.
    • Report on compliance matters to the Chief Compliance Officer, General Counsel and other Senior Management.

What you'll need:

    • 2+ years of experience developing and implementing compliance, operational, and systemic auditing or testing programs; also should be able to construct and execute tests of controls. 5+ years of experience preferred.
    • Strong technical knowledge of key regulatory requirements, including those governing consumer products. For example, UDAAP, TILA, TISA, EFTA, CFPB payday rule, GLBA, and state licensing laws.
    • Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
    • SQL skills are preferred.
    • Experience working with products or businesses in lending, banking, financial services, or other highly regulated sectors.
    • Experience in the tech industry preferred, including FinTech.
    • Superior project management skills with ability to coordinate with many stakeholders and deliver projects on time.
    • Excellent communication skills including writing reports and delivering technical training.
    • Strong ability to work in a leadership role and influence peers. Must be able to work collaboratively with the supported businesses, providing guidance, and administering policies/procedures as needed in a timely manner.
    • Strategic thinking with the matched ability to deliver compliance improvements and set best in class processes.

Signs that you're a great fit

    • You are already on a mission to reduce compliance risks.
    • You identify areas of enhancement and collaborate and influence others to implement solutions that address potential risks.
    • You are proud of your commitment to grow and collaborate with a high-performing team.
    • You want to work for a mission-oriented company.
