GitGuardian is a French cybersecurity startup founded in 2017. The company helps developers
write code that is more secure. It protects their enterprises against unauthorized access to some
of their most critical systems and data.
The company is backed by American and European investors including top-tier VC firms.
Among some of the visionaries who saw this unique to the market value proposition, are the co-founder of GitHub, Scott Chacon, along with Docker founder and CTO Solomon Hykes.
GitGuardian already helped more than 100 of the Fortune 500 as well as government organizations find exposed sensitive information on GitHub, that could often lead to tens of millions of dollars in potential damage.
As an Engineering Manager at GitGuardian, you will report directly to the CTO and your principal mission will be to manage the delivery of one of our feature teams working hand in hand with the Lead developer and the Product Manager.
To summarise the role of the engineering manager at GitGuardian vs the role of the lead developer: “The Lead Developer makes sure the technical approach of the team is correct whereas the Engineering Manager makes sure the team is correct”.
During our sprints releases cycles, you will:
Make sure the technical teams are able to meet their deadlines
Be able to arbitrate between the opinions of the different interlocutors: Lead Dev, PM, Business department, as mentioned below:
Challenge the opinion of the Lead Developers concerning the technical difficulties and the estimated amount of time required to develop a feature
Challenge the Product Manager’s specifications in order to evaluate if a balance is possible to realize a feature in a shorter time limit than the initially estimated
Consult the business department to evaluate the possible impact on the customers on board, or in the process of signing.
By owning the delivery of these teams, you will drastically improve the communication cross team.
You will also take an active role in the recruitment part alongside with the HR department to properly help us scale the tech teams in good conditions by building with us the recruitment strategy and improving the already existing processes.
At the same time, you will help us design the career path of the tech teams, and challenge the organization in place to make it more efficient and productive.
Quarter by quarter, you will help us build and structure our team-based OKRs and will own the implementation process. Also, on a bi-annual basis, you will help us evaluate team performance as well as individual performance of each developer for the variable bonus attribution.
By building a trust relationship with all our team members, you will help with new engineers onboarding and training, improve our current process and set up new ones to improve quality and delivery.
Our technical stack:
Backend: Python + Django, Go, RabbitMQ, Redis
DB: Elasticsearch (+ Kibana), PostgreSQL
Frontend: React / Typescript
Deployment: Docker, Terraform, AWS
Why joining us?
As a post Series A startup, we are facing many exciting and strategic challenges and we are experiencing rapid growth!
We offer an amazing opportunity to be a part of a strong technical DNA company (built by developers for developers), with a strong impact on the open source community (our free product for individual developers, already alerted 400K developers!)
We built a product that scans GitHub for sensitive information (API keys, database connection strings, proprietary code, etc.), at scale (2.5M commits/day). We seek to automate the creation of “policies” that are enforced at every stage of the development lifecycle (IDE and pre-commit, CI) to make the source code more secure.
Our offices are based in central Paris (75011) and each person of the team can do remote work for 2 days a week in order to facilitate a good work - life balance.
