The Communications Team at Nextdoor is tasked with building and executing a world-class communications strategy to elevate the power of Nextdoor, while supporting the company’s rapid global growth and adoption. Our team’s mission is to help neighbors around the world understand how Nextdoor can help each other in their daily lives, stay in the know, and build deeper real-world connections.

The Impact You’ll Make

The Communications Lead, based in New York, will work closely with the executive team, internal stakeholders and external media partners to bring Nextdoor’s story to life around the globe and transform Nextdoor as the place where neighborhoods happen.  The role requires the ability to identify emerging trends and respond to these in unique ways and a good understanding of the advertising industry. The ideal candidate has extensive experience dealing with key ad tech and business media and enjoys elevating partnerships and uncovering interesting stories and data points from team members in the trenches with customers.  

Key responsibilities include: 

  • Lead OKR setting for the quarterly and annual planning process.
  • Work cross-functionally with subject matter experts and data teams to create a steady stream of insights and content and inform external-facing projects; drive recommendations and decision making with data; and provide strategic guidance for how data is used to inform external narratives.
  • Identify speaking opportunities and thought leadership opportunities for commentary or bylines in ad tech outlets, ensuring that the best placed mix of executives and leaders are represented.
  • Manage day to day relationships with reporters and industry analysts with a focus on trade and business publications. 
  • Develop and execute comprehensive communications plans around partnerships and advertiser campaigns that speak to Nextdoor’s core value proposition. 
  • Create external facing documents such as press releases, research and data reports, blog posts, white papers, customer testimonials and other collateral that can be presented to journalists and analysts. 
  • Own internal documents such as reporter briefs, newsworthy industry topics and other resources required for executives and leaders to speak to the press.
  • Collaborate with international teams to ensure that U.S. assets are localized and that our message is consistent globally.
  • Leverage content by helping write, source, and post content for @nextdoor social channels and be willing to help with social influencer campaign coordination.
  • Help manage internal communications strategy, including weekly All Hands meetings.

What You’ll Bring to The House

  • Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 8+ years of communications experience in-house or in an agency 
  • Understanding of/experience in Ad Tech industry and current key issues
  • Strong media relationships with the ability to convert relationships into coverage
  • Results-oriented self-starter with strong follow-through; able to manage and prioritize team workflow and multi-task 
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills, including the ability to proactively anticipate requirements and identify and mitigate potential issues before they occur
  • Leadership presence, sound judgment and ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Flexible, adaptable and unflappable under high pressure 
  • Ability to thrive in a rapid development, fast paced environment
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with an attention to detail 
  • Based in New York
