Job Description
At Parallel Domain, we believe that autonomous systems – from self-driving cars to contactless delivery drones – have the opportunity to drastically improve the quality of life for billions of people. That is why we love what we do: enabling our customers to develop their technology safely using the Parallel Domain data generation platform. Our platform revolutionizes the way our customers generate sensor data for AI development. We're looking for people like you to join us in pushing the boundaries of artificial intelligence and synthetic data.
We’re looking for a Technical Artist capable of thriving within a rapid development environment. We are a fast-moving and focused team building a world-class platform for data generation for autonomy. In this role, you will be responsible for contributing to and supporting a real-time content pipeline that procedurally creates large and vibrant digital worlds, filled with 3D characters, vehicles, and more. The ideal candidate has 3+ years of experience working in a real-time graphics field with an emphasis on photo-realistic visuals, and is eager to discover and implement ways that we can make our content more scalable, detailed, varied, and easy to work with for the whole team. From working in Unreal Engine to prototype and implement new features to thinking of clever ways to keep track of our ever-expanding library of assets, the ideal candidate will thrive in a position where they can wear many hats and collaborate with as many team members as possible. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and we are open to discussing remote work.
Qualifications
- 3+ years of professional experience working as a Technical Artist or comparable role
- Deep understanding of 3D digital art production techniques for environments, vehicles, characters, etc.
- Ability to identify and develop workflows for content authors to increase production efficiency, maximize quality-of-life, and make it fun to develop digital content.
- Skilled in Python, SQLite, VEX, MAXScript/MEL, JSON, and/or other comparable languages and formats.
- Strong understanding of lighting and materials in real-time rendering, Unreal Engine 4 preferred.
- Working knowledge of real-time performance optimization techniques, particularly in Unreal Engine 4.
- Experience working with procedural environment creation tools, Houdini preferred.
- Evidence of involvement through a full release cycle of a shipped product (video game, film, architectural visualization, etc.).
- Enthusiasm to brainstorm ideas with teammates, share and iterate on concepts and existing tools, and work in open problem spaces.
Bonus Points
- Experience developing and organizing systems in Unreal Engine Blueprints.
- Experience working in real-time automotive rendering and/or architectural visualization.
- Experience with HLSL and debugging low-level rendering issues.
In This Role, You Will...
- Assist the content team by developing and maintaining new pipelines which bridge traditional 3D workflows with procedural systems that generate photo-real 3D environments sourced from map data.
- Work with the all team members to create a content library that is scalable and easily accessible for team members on both the engineering and content authoring teams.
- Take on technical content authoring tasks across multiple disciplines, staying up-to-date on internal workflows for environments, characters, lighting, materials, etc.
- Optimize 3D worlds and implement techniques for smooth playback both in-editor, during real-time application playback, and during high-quality data set renders.
- And much more!
