We’re looking for a Senior Character/Vehicle TD capable of thriving within a rapid development environment. We are a lean and focused team building a world-class platform for data generation for autonomy. In this role, you will be responsible for developing and supporting a real-time content pipeline that will enable us to create accurate representations of 3D characters, vehicles, and more, bringing our worlds to life. The ideal candidate has 4+ years of experience working in a real-time graphics field creating photo-realistic animated characters and vehicles, and is eager to jump in, research, and implement innovative techniques to move our technology forward in a scalable way. This position is based in Vancouver, BC, Canada, and we are open to discussing remote work.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • 4+ years of experience working in a real-time graphics field (games, real-time film previsualization, automotive visualization, etc.)
  • Extensive familiarity using Unreal Engine 4 for animation work (or comparable engine with notable similarities to UE4)
  • Exceptional understanding and interest in asset pipelines targeted at real-time characters and vehicles, including swappable accessories and parts, locomotion systems, character/environment interactions, glass/skin rendering, etc.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of DCC software packages (Maya, 3DS Max, ZBrush, etc.)
  • Professional experience rigging characters for dynamic/user-controlled animation in a real-time environment
  • Previous experience implementing photo-realistic human or animal characters and vehicles into a digital medium
  • Functional character animation abilities
  • Solid understanding of material and texture authoring techniques (especially for characters and vehicles) and material library management in real-time environments (shader creation in UE4, Substance Designer, Mari, etc.)
  • Expert in both verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong ability to estimate timelines, manage deadlines and priorities, and communicate work progress
  • Ability and eagerness to deliver, receive, and analyze candid feedback in a positive way
  • Collaborative attitude, humble, and eager to make a large impact 

BONUS POINTS

  • Experience managing (or working directly with) outsourcing teams and/or using externally-sourced asset libraries
  • Ability to create painted concepts and pre-visualizations of concepts to help share ideas, establish visual targets, and provide critiques
  • Experience using Marvelous Designer
  • Experience with procedural systems such as Houdini
  • Experience using real-time raytracing in UE4, or extensive history with raytracing concepts

IN THIS ROLE, YOU WILL ...

  • Lead the pipeline development for character and vehicle art creation, defining art production best practices for character/hard-surface art, including engine integration and rendering quality
  • Work with the Content Lead and other studio directors to identify and author goals and workflows that we can use to create the content that is essential to delivering dynamic and unique scenarios to our customers
  • Work with technical artists and engine developers to create character and vehicle content that can be controlled dynamically by our internal simulation software
  • Collaborate regularly with other team members, contributing and voicing thoughts on new ideas to improve our work efficiency, deliver higher-quality visuals, and make Parallel Domain an even better place to work
  • Manage and guide internal artists at Parallel Domain working on both characters and vehicles
