Job Description

SUMMARY:
Icosavax, Inc. is a start-up biotechnology company focused on developing potential “best-in-class” vaccines for respiratory diseases in older adults using a protein-based virus-like particle (VLP) vaccine platform. This VLP technology allows for stable, multivalent display of immunogens, driving a more robust immune response, and therefore should yield improved efficacy compared with conventional approaches. Icosavax has an experienced management team and has raised $51M to date in a Series A financing. Icosavax has multiple vaccine candidates expected to move into clinical studies in 2021.
Icosavax seeks to hire a Financial Controller based in Seattle, WA who will be responsible for the day to day financial and accounting activities. This role will be responsible for working with the R&D, program management, and operations functions to build and maintain the annual budget, supporting management of our professional employer organization (HR, payroll, and employee benefits), and overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general accounting systems.
The successful candidate will have experience in both FP&A and accounting. They will be talented and self-motivated, a quick learner and creative. They will have excellent problem solving skills as well as strong written and verbal communication skills. This position requires someone who can work within a team, both within the finance / operations group and with employees at all levels of the organization. They will have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working on a team but be able to work with moderate guidance and take pride in the quality and timely delivery of their work.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Establishing where needed, monitoring, and supporting the maintenance of accounting policies and procedures and internal controls.
• Owner of the budgeting process; partnering with department leads and program management team on building, maintaining, and revising their annual budgets as well as budgets to support financing efforts.
• Leading month end close process – account reconciliations, accruals, journal entries and variance analysis.
• Supporting and overseeing day to day financial and accounts payable activities; entering invoices, getting approvals, corresponding with vendors and preparing accrual reports.
• Reviewing month-end accounting reports and budget to actual variances.
Preparing detailed financial, cost, and accounting reports for internal use as well as investor and grant deliverables.
• Leading interactions with outside auditors and to otherwise to support annual audits and tax filings.
• Managing payroll process including benefit reimbursements, 401K, period-end accruals, and time off accrual calculations.
• Misc. financial support including board and audit committee meetings and financial reporting to investors.

Requirements

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business with emphasis in Accounting (CPA Preferred).
• 5-9 years’ experience in an Accounting or Finance related work environment with experience in both FP&A and accounting.
• QuickBooks experience required – Including class and job tracking; PO reporting and bank feeds.
• Experience reporting, and reconciling against budgets from multiple funding sources (e.g., investments and grant income).
• Excellent analytical, written, and verbal skills.
• Ability to work with all levels of management and effectively communicate with people at all levels and from various backgrounds.
• Attention to detail, timeliness on delivering commitments, and the ability to handle multiple tasks.
• Ability to gather data, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and propose solutions.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills are a must.
• Experience at a public company or accounting firm with SEC and financial reporting requirements is strongly preferred.
• Experience in biotechnology industry strongly preferred.
• Experience working with professional employer organizations (PEOs) for HR, payroll, and employee benefits management strongly preferred.
